This misconception that trucks cannot supply enough air to power an air gun is laughable.

What is the cfm the air gun requires?

I/R 1/2" drive gun putting out 625 ft lbs only requires 5.4 cfm.
I/R 3/4" drive gun putting out 900 ft lbs requires 9.5 cfm.

Those cfm ratings are pretty typical for impact guns.

What is the cfm most truck air compressors put out?

    http://www.bendix.com/media/documents/products_1/compressorsgovernors_1/quickrefguide.pdf

Most compressors mounted on truck engines will put out 12-16 cfm...with some as much as 31 cfm. In any case, more than enough to keep up with an air impact gun....just idle it up to 1250 RPM or so and let'er rip.

Worst case scenario, a 3/4" breaker bar with a 40" handle, and a 36" cheater pipe slipped over the end together ought to be enough to break even the most stubborn lug nuts loose.

And you don't need an air-powered jack. A simple bottle jack will suffice. A 20 ton will lift any axle off the ground, but in reality, a 12 ton bottle jack will do anything you need done out on the road. You are only allowed 34K on a tandem, which is 17K per axle, and 8500 pounds per set of duals....which a 12 ton (24K) rated jack ought to have no problem at all lifting.

they have the tire at $605 and labor $142.50. I have a buddy of mine that has a brand new tire that he no longer needs for 150.00

Aha, so the problem isn't about being able to change tires... it's about avoiding deer.

Think what you like, a bendix air compressor and a truck air system won't produce enough air to run an air gun to break wheels nuts that are torqued to 450 ft lbs loose. There's not sufficient volume to do the job due to the lack of air supply. As i stated before...break them loose and a gun will do the job.

I was also thinking about the newer cordless impacts like a snap-on.

As a former tool guy the battery operated impact guns are not up to the task. IR makes the strongest battery impact, Snap-On won't do lug nuts, your truck air compressor is up to the task with the right tool.

Tell that to someone who hasn't done it and maybe they'll believe you...but having done it before myself, you aren't going to convince me that it cannot be done. The truck's air compressor produces more than sufficient cfm to power any 1/2" gun, and most truck air compressors will produce sufficient cfm to power any 3/4" gun.

Hell, a lot of truck air compressors will put out more cfm than most home compressors. The one in my shop is only rated to 14 cfm.

    Believe what you choose to.

There's a reason why shops and tire trucks have big air lines and it's NOT for decoration.

You can't do that on a truck because the tanks don't sustain the volume draw.
