Hmmmmthats a good point...I was thinking reefer because of the uncertainty of the economy....I am 61... Not 31 so wear and tear on my body is a good point to consider.and I don't do well if I get really mixed up on sleep cycles. I'll take your advice and talk to some drivers. I rally don't care what I pull..just want lots o miles.

. In fact, it is due to a fellow Prime driver who offered to switch trailers (said driver had to take his 10 anyway and with permission from BOTH FMs) that enabled him to see her ON her birthday. Now he's running a tight route to Springfield, MA...and again Tyson didn't help matters any
. I'm thinking about boycotting Tyson. Not that it would help much.
JCW and I have been married for 12 years. He missed our anniversary and my birthday (those are 6 days apart). But we have made it through some really hard times before, but we made a commitment at the time we got married, and agreed there was only ONE dealbreaker. Everything else can be gotten through with communication. Cell phones, Skype, email, texting, these things can make the separation easier. -
I want the gold runs, I may have to take a detour....

DTB. JCW is a very fortunate man. I've read a number of your posts on other threads...and you are one in a million. Glad to have you as a friend. Thanks for the note of encouragement. I was talking with my favorite uncle the other day about the wisdom of this move. He reminded me that in the old days, it was common for the man of the house to leave for extended periods of time because their job demanded it. Seamen, going out to find whales...we're gone 2 years at a time. Trappers were gone for months during the trapping season. And...and if something happened to them...they just didn't come back...and no one ever knew if they were killed....or just abandoned ship(so to speak). I only plan to OTR for a year...get it out of my system...then fina a local company and become a little more civilized,. However...I am also reading that some people get it in their blood...and can't give up the open road.

Hey Mark,
I see that you have begun your driving training. Good for you! I know you will do well and I think that the instructors there at Sage are good instructors.
BTW, I am the guy that sat behind you at school, Rob. I havent started with my driver training yet, I start in a couple of weeks.
I hope to see more of your post on your success at Sage and at your potential new career!!!!
Take care and good luck! -
Well, now I know your last name. I got a couple emails from Bill as well...I guess you Albany guys will start next week...I just found out a little while ago that Prime and I can't get along. So, I'm thinking about who I'll go after next. How about you? Do you have a company lined up ?
-
Actually mark, James my middle name lol.
Bill and I start our driver training on the 28th of Nov. Our road test is on the 6th of Dec so they have me scheduled to drive 8hrs for 3 of the days. I cant wait to go and get it done lol.
I really dont know who I would like to drive for. Since I will have NO experience, I would imagine that I will have to drive for a big company, but with these horror stories you read on here, that is a tough decision. Was thinking about USA Trucks or US Xpress but after reading what I have, Im not sure about considering them, but I dont know what all else is out there. Schneider seems like a good bet but Im not sure if they have anything for me. I dont want a regional or a dedicated run and last I looked, thats all they had for this area. I would prefer to go OTR but I dont want to get screwed by werner, swift, cr england or the rest that have bad names, so as of right now, my decision is up in the air lol. -
...yes, like many here, am coming into trucking late in life. expect to pay dues and be committed to learning how to be good driver. starting class soon, hope to have cdl by end of year & hired 1st of next year. know i have a lot to learn and proving myself.

Got some disappointing news yesterday...I've been unemployed for 18 months, and the recruiter at Prime misunderstood, and assured me that it would not be a problem...but the more we talked, the more I realized she thought I'd been out only a year...at 18 months Prime's safety department won't let them hire me...so, now it's back to the drawing board. My head wanders between others I've talked to...Roehl keeps coming back to mind. I really want long haul..not short hops between northeast cities.
Wedge Thanks this. -
