To the original question, I'll take the better equipment. If your pulling into a scale and you have to cross your fingers to get out, Point one. When your sitting on the side of the road waiting on the tire guy, Point two. Being towed to the shop a thousand miles from home, Point three.
There are a lot of drivers out here running non-KW,Petes, that make good money. They maintain 'em, they watch the tires, and they don't put themselves in bad scenarios. Like taking a load to Denver and having to sit two days for another load.
But more on Point, you make money rolling. Percentage or miles, new or old, maintenance pays off no matter what your driving.
Is Driving Better Equipment Worth a Slightly Lower Pay?

If i was going to drive for a company i would take the better truck and lower pay. Higher pay means nothing if your sitting in the shop or on the side of the road all the time. Plus you can not just look at pay imo. What other benifits are offered to you. If you get $.40 a mile but pay a higher percentage of pay for insurance you might be better of going for less pay with lower insurance cost.

well you are caught in a catch 22 and im not a cowboy fan. even though your in a older model truck the thing is the maintenance if you have a well kept older truck and making good money but if the old truck is not kept up you will be down alot and guess what that company truck at less money per mile is way better cause at least they are running but all trucks break down so its still a gamble. but as a driver a real driver if you do your part and check out the vehicle I will take my chances running a old trk but pay close attention. All trucks break down but damaged is minimized by early detection
