yeah that is if your backing in an tightspot its hard because its big!.. if your doin a strait back or any other manuver!..its much easier to control a 53' compared to a 28, just like its easy to stear back a baby box than it is to revers a compressor or something small on a pick up the littlest touch on the wheel will trow it off course..big=morewheelturn ,small=less

Ok, I've driven 53', 48' and a 28'. Out of all those three, unless you're use to the quick response you get with a 28' it will be more of a challenge to back. The shorter trailers tend to drift faster than a longer one. You can get a short 28' into tighter places much easier than a 53', just like a day-cab is much easier to use to maneuver than a stretched Xtended hood Pete or KW9.

Now as far as having the tandems slid all the way forward, it's going to make the trailer turn sharper, but you still have the rest of the trailer beyond that, needing the additional space. Slide them all the way to the rear and see if it is as easy to do an alley-dock, 90degs. Or better yet try doing it the same way using a 53ft spread axle.
