Ah, Kansas, Kansas, what was genocide?

Set your way-back hat to 1750 or so. Look for one of these nebulous "Native Americans". You don't see any because there are a couple thousand different tribes all slaughtering each other. (I mean no offense to any recognized ethnicity here. They really were.) First the French and then the English used one tribe or another to wage war on each other and their colonies. The colonists became quite alarmed at the duplicity of the tribesmen. One couldn't tell which side any given tribe was on.

There really is no telling who started what. It is a fact that the French paid for British colonists' scalps during what we call 'The French and Indian War'. The tribes started gathering them. Animosity peaked and the die was cast. Colonists no longer dealt peaceably with the tribes. Children learned from their parents, and then their children, too.

In the end, the colonists (and then the new country) were too powerful. Yankee and plantation would work together, Mohawk and Cherokee would not.

Colonists and tribes were both badly used by the European empires. Because in the begining a few tribes picked the wrong side, in the end all the tribes paid the price.

What the European counties did is not my concern but what our country did which was supposedly built on principles of laws, on principles of fairness, on principles of individual rights is my concern. We made treaties with Native Americans and told them we would civilize them but we broke our own treaties, we taught them that our word is no good, that our laws are capricious.
When we puff up our chests and talk about what a great country we are do we really now simply reduce it to be because we were the bigger bully? What happened to the ideas this country was founded on before greed replace them? Do we even care anymore now that techno wonderment has replaced historical and cultural understanding?
We are no longer citizens but consumers and a people who do not know where the countries we are fighting are on a map except for the people who have been sent away from home for ten years putting their lives on the line as we indulge in nonsense at home unworthy of a great country meant as a distraction while the plutoarchy continues the process of dumbing us down and letting wallstreet take more control of our government and rob us of our livelihoods and wealth.
The writers of the constitution knew democratic republics were short lived and tried to create ours to last and 200 some years is pretty good but Jefferson knew a democracy required an active and educated citizenry and we have clearly replaced that with a consumer culture of instant gratification.

 

And really, why do we thank the few who chose to join the service for whatever reasons when as a democratic republic we all should have a responsibility to defend the country. Standing armies were one of the biggies the founders were against yet here we are, even sending 2500 troops to Australia now to keep our new enemy we created, China, at bay thanks again to wallstreet. If we were serious about our love of this country we would be like the Swiss, all of us in the defense force which would also contain our enthusiasm for wars not about our defense. I appreciate those who have put their lives on the line for what we believe are noble causes, for those killed and treated dis-respectively by our own country, for those having trouble dealing with wounds, both mental and physically and can't get the help they need, and for those having troubles integrating back into a people who never sacrificed a thing. What I find sickening are the profiteers on wallstreet making money off the wars while many people of limited means fight them because there are no jobs thanks to the same wallstreet vultures.

 

Merciful heavens, I'm not quite sure where to start with all that revisionist, liberal pap. It appears that you know many things. Unfortnately, most of what you know is wrong. Let's start....

If you call my country a "Democratic Republic" one more time, I will come find you. There was a German Democratic Republic once and they sank themselves into the Dark Ages. The Republic of Germany is still paying ior that disaster. What we have is a "Representative Republic". We have Representatives, democratically elected. Note the lower-case "d". Every state in the Union is guaranteed a republican form of government. Note the lower-case "r".

You appear to excell at applying 21st century Political Correctness to 18th and 19th century situations. Firstly, Americans on the frontier were real busy trying to avoid being killed. They probably weren't overly concerned with the "Moral Superiority" of Washington DC. I'd be willing to bet that they weren't incredibly sophisticated, either.

Then there's the varying policies of changing Administrations. Even you must have noticed that Public Policy often changes just a teeny bit from Administration to Administration. One Administration would make a treaty and the next would find that same treaty absurd. And, while you didn't actually come out and say it, you appear to be under the misconception that the tribes never broke a treaty, either. Understand what was going on there and then. Put yourself in their shoes, both sides. I truly fail to understand why liberals think that WE are ALWAYS the problem.

And, no, I'm not saying that we always did it right. Far from it. What I AM saying is that the picture is not monochrome. And it is far more likely that we are the solution, the average citizen-on-the-street much more than the Government.

Enough. You need to stop listening to people who know a lot that is wrong and do some verification research yourself. Your first assignment is to find out, from original documents and not news reports, what part Barney Frank and Chris Dodd played in our nation's current financial difficulties.

Funny how someone who believes in the constitution is now some form of a "liberal" and that can be capital or small L. Naturally you go on to assume because you have pegged me as a "liberal" that I am for more government and want more of it but that is the part that is so humorous about people who apparently are from the "right" with little tiny r that some how think encroaching on people with military might is "the citizen-on-the-street" which shows how clueless you are about what is going on in this country. And in American history the military created outposts that were to keep us out of Native American lands and everyone was well aware that the encroachment by non military people into those Indians lands deserved what they got just like someone breaking into your house should expect to receive a less than friendly welcome but was used as an excuse to have to protect them, even when they were breaking the law, because they were white. Apparently racial superiority and breaking the law is your view of what America is. The situation in the west back then is pretty much like it is today where the military is used and military men killed in order to allow the lawless and greedy opportunist to move in for own greedy reasons which I suppose to you is what being American is about. It sure isn't mine belief of who we are suppose to be and makes it just that much harder to believe it is our system of democratic republicanism being spread to other countries.
It is simply hilarious after wiping out a people who now only make up 1-2% of the population of this country, with plenty of examples of broken treaties, far more by whites who obviously gained the most, and say some how I'm the one not seeing the bigger picture and not seeing it from the other shoes. How is it possible that even after virtually annihilating many tribes and cultures are you so thin skinned to say we can't even question it and to continue living in a mindless consumer culture that never asks questions and obediently rah rahs the team? You sir are more in the frame of mind of another German government that also never wanted to question themselves and believed they too were a master race.
The truth is what we should seek, not trying to categorize someone for your political rantings. Accepting our mistakes in hopes of learning from them should not be a terrifying experience for you. Sending people to die because supposedly we are spreading our system when from your very words are system doesn't appear to be any better than others since apparently we don't have to honor the rule of laws, don't have to honor treaties, and simple greed is good enough reason to wipe people out who get in the way. Again, it should concern us as Americans how we now are now in the way of the power elite and their wallstreet masters of this country as we see it played out in the Occupy movements.

 

An excellent documentary available on youtube call "Why We Fight" should be viewed by all concerned Americans today as that big "liberal" General Dwight D Eisenhower, Kansan by the way, first expressed his concern about military-industrial complex and how correct his prediction was. His fears, the fear of a 5 star general who knew more about war than any of the draft dodging politicians and lobbyist who are so eager to send us off to war.

I didn't say you actually were a flaming liberal, I said you were regurgitating the revisionist liberal line. Almost verbatim.

Contrary to popular belief, most philanthropy and "Foreign Aid" that comes from the USA, particularly in times of disaster somewhere in the world, comes from non-government sources. Mostly from those nasty Corporations that are so hated. You know, the ones we work for? Not from the muzzle of an M-16, nor from the gun of a M1A2 Main Battle Tank.

In 1992 we could have taken Kuwait and kept it, and who could have stopped us? Do Iraquis want us to still be there? Well, no. But they don't want Saddam still at the top, either. Then there's the Koreans. Yeah, they still want us around. But, consider this: The USA, with our virtually unlimited might, is the first and only great power of any age to have the ultimate strength in the world... and not used it.

I think I know why so many US citizens hate their own country. Except for the last few decades, our history is an open book - the white, the gray, and the black. Also, news distribution has constitutional protection - and nothing sells more than juicy bits of dirt. After all, who writes a story about an airplane (or a truck) that arrived at the destination safely?

I am tired of my fellow citizens bad mouthing our country. If you can't find some good to go with all that bad, don't let the door hit you in the fanny on your way out.

You don't have to support the war, Obama, Bush or whatever. But you should support the people who do it. These days a lot of the people who join the military just do it because they can't afford college. They do it because they have no other options. Even if you don't believe in them doing anything for you, you should support them for what they have to deal with.

Driving a truck on the road can be hard. Sitting in the middle of the desert in 100+ degree heat, being shot at by people you can't see, spending 12 months+ away from your family and friends, living in a below par living conditions, and dealing with being hated by everyone you meet. That is a lot harder. That alone, deserves respect.
