As for Lee Epling that driver doesn't drive for and isn't buying that Kenworth from Gunthers anymore. I don't know why but I was told by the Gunthers sons they had a falling out. I would like to know how Lee would speak of them now? I was there while Lee was running and it's true they were running those miles for Lee BUT not for any company drivers. We were hired as solo drivers and told if you wanted to run you would have to runn team for a little while. I lasted only my first trip out, and I have been trying to get the word out since. Everyone needs to goto csa's site and search dot# 1549504 not the company name, to see all the violations.

Maryland Trucking Company Declared "Imminent Hazard to the Public," Ordered to Immediately Cease Operations

Agency finds company repeatedly violated hours-of-service and vehicle maintenance safety regulations

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has declared Maryland-based Gunthers Transport, LLC an imminent hazard to public safety and ordered the trucking company to immediately cease all transportation services. FMCSA issued an imminent hazard out-of-service order against Gunthers following an exhaustive review of the company's operations, which found multiple hours-of-service and vehicle maintenance violations. ​

"Safety is our number-one priority," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "Commercial truck companies that recklessly disregard federal safety regulations will be shut down and removed from our roadways."
Gunthers was immediately shut down after FMCSA safety investigators found patterns of hours-of-service and vehicle maintenance violations that substantially increased the likelihood of serious injury or death to the motoring public. FMCSA discovered that the company allowed its drivers to falsify their hours-of-service records and exceed the 11-hour limit for daily driving. In addition, Gunthers did not require its drivers to perform pre-trip vehicle safety inspections, operated trucks that were in such poor condition they were likely to break down and posed a high crash risk based on its on-road performance record.
"FMCSA has zero tolerance for unsafe trucking companies that place the traveling public at risk. If they do not play by the safety rules of the road, we will take away their ability to operate," said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro.

ouch! I'd hate to be that guy when receiving the notice.
they had it coming. it isn't that hard to stay in compliance, but stupidity always gets in the way.

 

Sad to hear that they had gone so downhill. I worked there out of the Westville IN terminal from 1990 to 1997. They had good equipment and took care of them and the drivers back then. Yes, you could run as hard as you wanted to back then, but that was the norm for most companies. Was never forced to run if you were tired. There were a lot of good drivers there, and we all treated each other as family. I left after the DOT started targeting drivers in an effort to close the company down. I miss those days and the other drivers I knew well.

 

I believe so. One of thier trucks almost killed my parents on US 1 at conowingo dam down grade passing on a double solid yellow way above speed limit. he came over the top saw our slow car and then took the opposite travel lane into traffic to get by before smashing.

Im still angry about it to this day.
