if he did something like that he deserved to get fired, yeah the driver was way out of line (if he actually said it) but he should of just kept his cool and reported him to the dispatcher in the building.
Yup... I'm a noob

Brian,
I totally understand your what you are saying. I also live in the same area that you do and also just started driving. I highly suggest looking into Choctaw Express in which is owned by P.A.M. transport. I have been with Choctaw since this past July and I can only say GREAT things about the company. All the routes are dedicated runs and are teams. We only run parts for General Motors. Choctaw's terminal is in Irving (close to Texas Stadium). I also have a wife and three kids that I did not want to be out on the road for weeks at a time not being able to be with them. All the dedicated runs average a little more than 5000 miles per week and the best part is that you are home every weekend. The particular run I am on now, I also get to go home every Tuesday and Thursday for about 12 hours. Even though I am still very new, the most complaints I hear on the road is 1. no home time and 2. not enough miles. I think that I am very fortunate to work for such a good company that not only meet but exceed my requirements. I thought I would put my two cents in but you may want to consider Choctaw.... -

Hey Brian if you say you are willing to work for it you can go about getting your cdl for free through a beer or soda company. Being only 25 years old I would recommend this. I did the same thing at age 23. Its physically harder than just otr driving, but i think its worth it being home every day to sleep in my bed with my girlfriend. Plus 90% of all the horror stories you hear you do not deal with doing local deliveries. Being in Dallas, TX I'm sure there's 1 of everything around and for a starting job with some kind of Budweiser, Coke, etc. you should make atleast 600 a week to start and once you get some experience can move on to make some better money.

I thought about that also, but after talking to a few friends i have around here that drive trucks, they said the odds of me getting a local delivery job and traning from the same company would be very slim to none.. I'm willing to put in my time as a regular driver and pay my dues like everyone else, but right now i'm really looking for advice on what i should or should'nt do when i get my first driving job. -
Applied today for schneider at the GATS in dallas i talked to a few of the recruiters and they told be about the same thing as i was expecting...
although they did say that they could guarantee a regional or local position for me since i really dont want to be OTR for 3+ weeks at a time with only 2 or 3 days at home, can anyone verify this as being true?
on a side note i ran into the guys from chrome shop mafia while at GATS and got their autographs -

Hey Brian - I wish you and your girlfriend the best of luck. Your doing the right thing by investigating and doing your homework before you start. Just a small piece of advise - have your girlfriend do hers too. Truck driving not only effects you, but it will effect her in a big way also (and the dog may miss you). Make sure she asks questions and is ready for this life changing endeavor your looking into. Like I said, Good luck to both of you, keep doing what your doing and you'll be fine.
(hey vulcan - we'll keep an eye on wiseone)LOL
