I just started hauling cars, VERY challenging....
I work for a small local company, i spend 2-3 nights a week in the truck and usually get 1.5-2 days off per week, lately we have been busy so 1 day is about it....
I have damaged a few cars, including bridging a car yesterday, when I left a deck up after unloading, fortunatly it was a convertable already, so it only took the top and the trunk lid....owner pissed, but says it happens, he is very understanding, i would have expected to be fired by now, but he said it is the price of training a new car hauler.
very tiring, allot of walking, searching for cars, trying to load it properly, etc, many large companies give drivers print outs of where the cars go and where to set the decks, unfortunatly i have to rely on our team of very experienced people for loading sequence, and rely on myself to set the decks.
As I am typing now I am waiting on the side of the interstate waiting for road call on my truck, i have no gears.

What company you work for?
-
can you say how the pay is?
-
Does that mean you're another shiftless truckdriver? -
I am looking for a company to lease a hot-shot car hauler rig on with. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you go to the search bar above and type in hot shot. You will find a few threads. I can't post the link in here. But I read on one thread to goggle the word hotshot haulers. Hope this helps ya....

I have driven in the past mostly local stuff. My dad drove otr for 20+ years but that has been 15 years ago. I am getting ready to pull out with my first load of cars, from Fargo, ND to kansas city. Then load out of there to Dallas and Houston. I am getting paid 25% of total revenue for the haul. Is this a pretty fair rate or should I look for something else as far as getting paid mileage.
-
Depends on the company's line haul rates,......But 25% is a pretty good wage if the company's rates are inline with or above average,....

Like he said about the rates.
Old Car Hauler joke:
Txschwab was hauling a load of cars one night when he ran into a heavy snowstorm on a narrow 2-lane road. Suddenly all his lights go out.... headlights, everything. Noplace to park, can't see, can't drive with no lights... what to do??? Then he has an idea; "Hmmm, I've got a car up there on top". So he climbs up and pulls the lights on it. Not good visibility, but will serve to get him to the next truckstop and get fixed. Slowly he makes his way along and notices a car coming towards him. As the car gets nearer it starts swerving and then goes sailing off into the ditch. Schwab stops and drags the driver from the wreck; asks him "What happened to you?". Driver stares at him and says "Man, I looked up and saw you comin' and figured if you was anywhere's near as wide as yer headlights was tall there was no room on the road for me!!".Baack and luvmyhubby Thank this.
