When I hauled spuds to Frito Lay, they always made me unhook, thankfully after the first time I saw my trailer go in the air, and then get rocked to get the stragglers out. I think they told me they were tired of buying drivers TV sets.

I go to a lot of paper mills where there are no passengers authorized. The one that sticks out in my mind is the Smurffit-Stone in Fernandina Beach, FL. I unloaded there once in the summer months, and they had a sign at the guardshack saying, and I'm paraphrasing here, "No passengers or children allowed. We undertand in the months with no school, you'll bring your children with you. No children are allowed. Please make plans to leave your kids somewhere."

A refinery plant somewhere in La., they actually peeked inside the sleeper. They also made you wear hair net and safety glasses. No shorts. It was 120deg outside in the middle of summer and they made me wear some painter outfit. Some type of overalls. I backed truck in dock and turn engine off. Turn key in and wait in office. 3 other fellows there with same coveralls. Lol.

What's the big about turning in the keys? I always had 3 or 4 sets of keys on me or in the truck.

then your liable to find yourself kicked out of and banned from places. When Colo. began allowing CCW permits, both railroads put up strict sign: NO FIREARMS, NO CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS
randomly the railroad cops will do searchs of trucks, with K9's, if you refuse, your automatically banned for 1 yr from all UP controlled intermodal facilities in the US. They took down the signs a year back, but now they aren't playing games either. They were doing searches earlier this week. One company lost 4 O/O's who refused to be searched and one who refused to give up his CCW and weapon while on the ramp. All 5 are now banned nationwide, the company terminated their contracts as well, they can't be hired for intermodal work in the Denver area.
Supposedly, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, for Supermax receiving in Florisant, Co. has a new policy. You refuse to hand over your personal weapons (guns, knives, etc.), not only are you banned from the facility, but you may face prosecution. -
it's for safety, but I think most drivers have multiple sets.
-
Isn't it illegal to carry a firearm in a commercial vehicle even if you have a carry permit?
-
No. If you do a search in that handy little box up there you will find about a hundred threads with the laws pertaining to civilians carrying. In those you will find a thousand rabid gun owners posting catchy slogans and doomsday scenarios were the get to be Cobra(that insipid Stallone movie) and level entire gangs of evil miscreants.
In addition you will find quaint stories of alternatives such as bug spray, tazers, flare guns amd the like so those who fear a simple tool can have their little fantasies too. Also you will find a different thousand people with even more catchy sayings about shooting your testicles off.
In the middle of all that bs it will boil down to this simple fact. You are under no different laws than anyone else when it comes to carrying though some companies have corporate rules against it. -
Handing in keys is useless. even swift gives you 2 sets and you can get a 3rd if you ask.
-
Gotta give it to ya, Tazz. You managed to compress an entire 1,500-post discussion into three short paragraphs with the added benefit of a really good giggle. But what you say is 100% fact.
Well done!
Tazz Thanks this.
