USA Truck was the company to work for when I came here.
Trucks were slow as Moses, but USA made sure you kept the Wheels Spinning.
I hear Drivers complain all the time about not getting any miles.....Hint! Close the door and stay out of the Truck Stops!
When I came here USA did have Maintenance problems, but they also expected you to act like a Driver, and not a steering wheel holder.
I was here before Mr. Beckham was CFO let alone CEO.
I guess that tells ya how long I've been here.
As long as I've been here I have defended this company 100%.
All Trucking companies operate in the same way.... Some take care of the folks that make them money, and some don't.
When I came here USA Truck took care of it's employees, now they don't.
This past summer I was told I had some problems.
1 of those problems was pre-cancerous places on my arms neck and shoulders from sitting uncovered in the Truck for so many years. (if your light skinned like me, buy a floppy hat or cowboy hat, and wear thin long sleeves especially in the summer).
After telling the company, my miles were cut.
I went from being 1 of if not the top company driver to almost nothing.
I have the Top Gun awards to prove it.
I had the surgery I needed and came back to work.
Before I had the Surgery, I was encouraged by the company to become an Owner Operator, and was in the process of buying my own Truck.
When I came back, I couldn't get anyone to even talk to me.
The companies I had spoken to before I had Surgery about buying a Truck wouldn't even return my calls after they found out. ( how they found out, is only a guess, and I'm not gonna give my guess here ).
Then I noticed my miles being cut more and more. I went from 2800-3400 miles a week to 1600-2000 miles a week.
Then I noticed how I was spending all my time in the North East running short hops. I'm a National Driver and there are 48 States as I can recall, and I don't live anywhere near there. Nothing like spending 4 or 5 days sitting and not even getting downtime pay.
So..... Here I am. Mounting Dr. bills, no money to pay them, stuck selling my days off for half price to try and pay them, then not being paid for the work I did on several occasions, and having to wait over a month to be paid for the days I had to sell, ( the days over 5 were taken from me and no pay ) , having to choose between paying my bills, buying medicine, and eating. ( I weighed over 310lbs in September, and now I weigh a little over 240lbs. Lost almost 70 lbs in just over 2 months! Thanks to the USA Truck don't eat anything diet! )
I have the Dr. bills, Logs, and Pay stubs to prove it.
I have been reduced to begging just to be allowed to do my job.
You know how shameful that is?
But even that don't work.
Instead, I'm given a 250 or 300 mile weekend load from PA to Connecticut picking up on Friday and delivering Monday afternoon.
Most of the old resources are gone. Even calling HR don't help. I was pretty much told to deal with it, and then got to hear from Mr. click!
I have a clean Driving record, because I work hard to keep it that way.
I could easily go to work for another company, and I have had many offers because of my record and experience.
However......
With the per-cancerous growths on my skin, I can't get insurance.
So I'm stuck with USA Truck.
It's my fault. I stuck it out. I made my bed and I have to lay in it like a grown man.
I'm not asking for your help or your pity.
I'm just letting you know.
Driver, if you do come to work here, you better look out for yourself, because the new USA Truck will not look out for you.
USA Truck... don't get Surgery!

Sorry to hear about your troubles bro. Were these places on you moles or something else? Which doctor told you they were cancer? The trucking company's doc or your own private doctor?
Falling Apart Thanks this. -
My Dr., and they are the Pre-Carcinoma. I have to keep up with it and stay covered, and hopefully when the treatments are complete, I wont have any long lasting problems. But what really sucks is that insurance companies wont touch me now.
-
Sounds like they are starving you out?
Different company, but I know your pain. I got let go while I was in the hospital getting my heart surgery. It just happen to coincide with my 12 weeks on medical leave. But still, they could of waited until I got out and got my rehab. Some of them have no scruples when you get sick.Falling Apart Thanks this. -
Sorry to hear that. And I think your right. Only I can't afford to let it happen. I already spent all the money I had saved to buy my own truck, and now the Dr's are calling me every day.
If I loose the insurance... I'm lost as to what to do. -
People in general don't. Most seem to abandon a person once they are sick. At least that is what I have seen. Really sad.
-
Why are they calling you everyday? How often are they wanting to check you?
-
For money. I think that I'm being pushed to find another job just to pay my bills. It is sop for most companies to get rid of employees asap if they might have to actually use their insurance.
So if they cut my miles and my pay as a result, they figure folks like me will do just that.... Find a job that will pay, and leave just to pay our bills.
Thing is, I can't loose the Insurance because of follow up treatments, and I can't afford to make the Dr's unhappy either.
So.... lol! I took a second Job!
I sell Perfume online while the company leaves me sit. -

The best defense is a good offense. Tell no one nothing and make that your policy in the future. If you need time off for the doc. then say it's something else and so on.
Your either medicaly qualified to drive or your not and it's that simple. If your not qualified then you are of no use to the carrier. He's not going to hold a truck or a spot for anybody and he will reward the producers. If you put his health insurance premium at risk with claims he will put you out like trash.
Drivers are no different than a tool in a tool box. You either work or you don't and if you don't he'll get a new one.
It's a sheety deal and it's cold and hard , but true.
