Yes you could add a powered mic since your radio does not have a built in Dynamic. Using a powered mic with a dynamic equipped radio can cause your audio to be over-modulated, muddy sounding. Most of the time just adding a good Noise-cancelling Asatatic works wonders.

Problem is, you'll spend more on the mic than what the radio is worth. Keep what you have on there and resolve yourself to the fact that's as good as it's going to get, unless you upgrade to a different radio.

Yep, about as goofy as spending $150 on CB and $400 on an amplifier..

Please explain a little more on how you figure this....

Amp's and Mic's are two different critters...Now if "Bighig" was asking if adding a Amp would make a Improvement on his Cobra 19 or would it be a waist of money, then my answer would have been different....

Mater a fact...a $400 Amp would make that $30 radio sound more like a $400+ radio and walk the dog, and kick the cat.

    rabbiporkchop and Bighig Thank this.

Yours (and mine) comparison was based on the cost of each. That's it, nothing more. For that being the criteria, then spending any additional money on a radio, amp, mic or otherwise would be viewed as goofey according to you.

What you're pointing out is how the additional cost would affect the radio. It's fairly common knowledge that replacing about any stock mic could help, which is what the OP was asking. Again you're comparison was about cost, and I was just applying that to the likes of adding an amplifier.
