Mic, in the end that's what people decide. But, they don't have to do it with nobody ever hearing about it. If they have a complaint or a compliment, they can come on here and post.

This is all about sharing information, so truck drivers can have a better idea of what's what. It's no longer about being the mushroom that's kept in the dark and fed loads of you know what. And if they decide to paint unicorns and pink ponies on their trucks, PLEASE will you come on here and tell us? That is good information...w/ pictures please.

And on the cams, it's pretty weird. I think they would be better off with a VORAD system, which is a radar system for the truck (includes braking, following distances, engine idle, objects behind and on the sides), unless intimidation is part of the package.

Thank you for this post... I was thinking of this song the other day, but couldn't remember the title.

Nothing to worry about as long as you are doing the right thing?!?? A camera on in your cab recording your every move and sound? That cab, while belonging to the company also doubles as the drivers home. It's a huge, huge invasion of privacy. Why should anyone need to hear everything you say in your cab? What exactly would be the purpose of recording the driver? You can't justify this.

Well said Treefork , thats what Ive been waiting to hear. It is your home and you have the basic right to privacy . They already can keep tabs on you(braking etc..) with the computer thats already in the tk. The VORAD system that Andre speaks of I don't know about, but thats probably another option. This is much bigger than about Roehl. Paraphrasing bigblue19 here, but if a company feels a driver is iffy just let em go. Violating a drivers privacy is a bad move within the industry and it should not be accepted

Well maybe its just me then I am used to not having any privacy...but anyway it would only be able to record you on video if your curtains are open (from the mount I have seen) once you close your curtains they can't see you...and anyway they can record us over audio through the qualcomm.. (at least someone said it earlier Meltom maybe?? cant remember)...

oh and if they do paint the trucks hot pink with rainbows and unicorns I will definately post about it..with pics...as I am leaving...LOL...

That Vorad system is useless, I have driven 1 of the trucks Roehl had in the past with that system in it, anytime you cross a bridge or drive by a guard rail it would go off. I have never seen the cameras but I knew of one that had the vorad inplace because of tailgating.

I'd like to see the hot pink trucks with rainbows and unicorns, maybe we should give them to all the trainees so we would know who to avoid, I guess you would defitinly know who they are then!

We had a similar discussion this summer at Gary. If Roehl has such a problem with drivers that they need to put cameras in the trucks to monitor drivers that is a culture problem within the company. That leads back to the management since they are the ones who set the culture. Cameras in the trucks are only the latest in Roehl's culture of fear and that only accomplishes two things. Good drivers will leave for companies that treat them as professionals and second it makes the remaining drivers more dangerous. Instead of trusting their judgement to make driving decisions they are constantly second guessing themselves. Those lost seconds take a safe decision and make it an unsafe situation or paralyze a driver into not moving. Their attempts to micromanage actually decrease safety.

The day I'm told there's a camera being installed in my truck is the day I'll give my notice and move on. You're right, if they did something like that on a mass scale they'd lose tons of good drivers.

Not driving with a camera pointed at the interior of the cab. It is just too much Big Brother and I will not do it.
