Years ago there was a story in Reader's Digest about a new teacher. Beside each student's name on her roster was a three digit number which she believed to be IQ scores. She believed she had a class of gifted to genius students, so she treated them as such. Her class consistently tested the highest and had the fewest problems. Only later did she find out the numbers were for something else. The point is you get the behavior you expect. In Roehl's case they expect drivers to be unsafe and so they behave in a way that creates a self fulfilling prophesy. This is not unique to Roehl, but this thread is about them.

I drove for Roehl. I don't think I really want to go back working there. I currently drive a Taylor TDHC-975 container mover in a shipyard. I work 50hours a week, I'm home every night. And I make triple what my highest paycheck at Reohl ever was.

People have become so desensitized to giving up their freedom that they don't think a camera recording there every move and utterance is a big deal. Frankly, I wouldn't remotely consider working under these conditions.

Same goes with Schneider's hair testing for "pre-employment drug testing." It's bad enough we got to pee in a cup to get a job, and be randomly selected to pee to keep the job.

Benjamin Franklin stated, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety (or a stinking job), deserve neither liberty nor safety, (nor the stinking job)."

People, quit being so desperate for a job that you will likely quit in less than a year.

schnider isn't the only one that does the Hair Test...Roehl does too....and honestly after reading the last couple posts by preacher and treefork... I have come around...it isn't cool that roehl does put them in...but at the same time again they have the right...I probably would be with preacher, tree, and grinder...if they did it to my truck I would probably leave... Roehl is a micro managed company...and they squeeze every penny they can out of every load...and every mile... But there are worse companies out there.....

Very well said Preacherman. Second guessing yourself all the time undermines your confidence. Biggest challenge for me was quick yellow lights. Do I go and hope its a long yellow light or do I change my mind at the last spit sec and risk setting off the cam. If you've read some of my previous post then you know that I resigned over this. Privacy was the biggest issue for me, I just had to have it back. I feel sorry for the new hires because I doubt if company recruiters are disclosing this info up front. Maybe in time companies that use cams will eventually slack off and honor a drivers privacy...

There is an old saying "Your rights end at my nose." Roehl has a right to run their company however they want until it affects employees and their rights. For instance companies can place security cameras throughout their facilities, except in bathrooms.

There was a time in history during the industrial revolution when employers behaved like the management of most trucking companies. Those abuses resulted in illness, injury and death. The time finally came that the workers got fed up and the result were unions, strikes and labor laws to protect workers. One way or another there will come a revolution in trucking and change will have to happen. No matter how large the company now, it is still possible for them to fail. Keep in mind that most of the trucking industry is made up of small companies, not the big boys.

Yep Preacher Man a revolution is needed. Maybe Ron Paul can lead the charge for the truckers too lol !! I bet he would be anti cam for sure...
You got US express chargin drivers a dollar a mile for every mile that they drive out of rt lol !! You got Southern Refrigerated drivers getting charged I think $25(maybe less) for every underinflated tire as they come into the yd. Things are tight out there . The economy sucks. Changing gears here but you know on the qualcom I noticed that if I got up during the night to pee that qualcom would flash on alot. Other drivers have noticed the same thing. Then Mic said a few post back that the qualcom had an audio feature to it. Man if thats the case they really are snoopin lol !!

The qualcomm wakes up everyhour...its set up that way...so it can recieve messages and verify its position in the world (y I really don't know)...Now Roehl does not put cameras in every truck..they have their reasons...and to me it sounds like a Good Idea Fairy that Rick has fly through the office from time to time...From what I hear is the old man treated the drivers better and knows what it takes...but that is every company...the old man builds it up makes it what it is...then when they retire the kids promptly run it into the dirt with all the good ideas....
but to charge the driver for out of route...or underinflated tires...that is just silliness in action...I would walk away if that started happening here...hell I had to drive out of route the otherday due to an accident on I20 in Texas...I jumped on US 80 and went around and jumped back on 20...saved myself a couple of hours that I used to get to the cons and then down the road to get closer to my next shipper for the next days pickup...

It's easy to say how good things were. I'm not saying it isn't true, I've never had the experience of working with Everett. Met him a few times, heard some things good and bad, but that doesn't mean anything. It's all in how you percieve the past.

Good Idea Fairy is a good way to put it. I worked for Roehl two different times the 1st time 1996-2000 . Everett was runnin the show and Roehl had a much different feel back then. We were actually required to call in and touch base with our fleet manager everyday . These days it's just the opposite and fleet managers jobs are more demanding. One major difference though that effects the running of a company is the price of fuel and the general state of the company. The late 90's the economy was really good and the fuel was cheap so maybe Everett didn't have the same challenges as Rick. I don't think Everett would have ever allowed cameras though but I maybe wrong. Companies reallly have to run a lean machine in order to survive these days.
Under Everett it seemed like Roehl liked to keep things more simple and more flexible. Under Rick the Good Idea Fairy has an office next to his and he makes things complex and rigid. Can't imagine the pressures he's under though and keeping things simple and flexible maybe easier said than done in the times we live in...
