Congrats MacMarlin!! Cheryl was my recruiter too, and I did my orientation at Ellenwood. You'll get the meal tickets for dinner - the restaurant at the hotel (if they put you where they put us) is pretty good - breakfast is good - they know how to cook grits and that's how Southerners will judge a breakfast - LOL - OF COURSE go to the Piccadilly one night and chow down - the meal ticket is good there, too. One afternoon/evening if you get out of orientation early, you HAVE to go to Chin-Chin (Chinese & Sushi/Sashimi) - it's in the Kroger shopping center past Piccadilly - bit of a hike but well worth it and the area's not bad. The Early Bird specials are awesome (cheap - you'll have to pay yourself - the meal ticket isn't good at Chin-Chin), the service is great and you won't go hungry - LOL.

When you do your driving test at Ellenwood, watch your revs & watch your curbs & watch for the Stop Signs!!! Safety is #1.

Best of Luck - enjoy & keep us posted :):biggrin_255:

Thanks for all the good advice LKat. You're right about us southerners and our grits, but I like shushi too, so looks like all my food issues are resolved

About the driving test...do they expect you to double clutch, or is floating ok?

  4. I like Ellenwood myself. They have made a spot down below where we park for a school. You will take your driving test in a Freightliner condo with a straight ten transmission. Have fun

Macmarlin - They want to see you double clutch on the test, I'm pretty sure. What they are mainly looking for is safety (avoidance of curbs - LOL!!!). Hope orientation is going well! Keep us posted :)

Day one of orientation is over, and the road test went ok. I could have been smoother on my shifting, but just a case of nerves I guess. The guy that tested before me nearly ran over a stop sign, which prompted the driver trainer to pull the emergency brake in the middle of the intersection. I felt bad for the guy, but there was no way that was going to slide.

I just got done with evo I and II :biggrin_25519:.. A few ups and downs but what job doesnt have ups and downs? All I would like to stress is to please wash your rear ends on the road.. I been out with two different trainers for a total of 20 days and I only took a shower 3 times on the road.. The times in between evo's and the times i was able to reset at home I caught up on my showers, but other then that 3 showers.. T/A and Pilot gives you free showers with 50 gallon or more fill ups so there is no reason you should stink at all. I have stop with my trainer at truck stops many of times and saw a sign that says shower and I would ask if I could grab one and he would say we have to run. :biggrin_25513:. Then he would say, "we will stop at one when we shut down" only to find out we couldnt make it to a stop that had one. :biggrin_25510:. It can be planned. Once i get my own truck I will make that part of my every other day routine.

Midwestroller - I am just cracking up - my trainer was just the Opposite!! I kept wondering if my deodorant wasn't working because my trainer made sure there was opportunity to shower every other day Minimum!!! At home, I'll shower every day but it was just so funny that the trainer was bringing it up and making sure that we were either at a truckstop or a terminal with showers. We ran a lot of miles, too, so you are right, shower stops can be planned. And I plan on it - for me anyway, and so I don't offend anybody! hahaha! am I stinky??? :biggrin_25512: {sniff sniff} :biggrin_2551: is that me??? :biggrin_2555:

PS - tell us about your post-Evo's road test? I'm wondering where you take that and how that's different from the pre-Evo's road test. Good Luck & keep us posted :)

Don't know about the other terminals, but the one at Gary was the same test only backwards! IE, you took the same route, but in the other direction. It was a bit harder that way due to the way some of the turns are.

Lkat I havent taken it yet being that I just got dropped off. I will have to talk to my DSR to seen when it will be time for me to take it. I will post the results when im done.

  11. I took my road test in Gary after evo II. We drove around for about 30 minutes or so. My EVO II trainer told me as we were heading in to Gary from I 80, "I want you to take this curv in 7th gear and the next in 5th. remember to drive your trailer." . The road curves to the right and then back to the left and then a stop light. you turn right and the yard is up on the left. Well, if you are not driving your trailer, you will have it way over the lines. You have to have the tractor way to the right to keep your trailer in your lane. Remember to not shift going over a Rail Road Track.

You will be fine. I asked lots of questions while we were driving. The instructor used to drive for Roehl before he went to Orrientation.

    Have fun

Oh ya, some times it is tough to get a shower every day. Mostly when I have to sleep at a shipper/receiver. Davis truck stop on I95 in Stoney Creek Virginia exit 33 gives all Roehl free showers even if you do not fuel. They also give you a free fountain drink or coffie when you fuel. Got a soda today. From what I understand, Whites truck stop gives us free showers with out fueling also.

You know you stink when you can smell yourself. lol
