Michigander here as well. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, as far as getting a job. Started out local right out of school.

because there isn't alot of freight coming out of michigan in the last few years,,so its harder to get loads out of here. so when its time for you to get home its difficult for them to get a load for you to bring out or its expensive for you to deadhead to where the freight is.

Hello Folks. New to the forum and located in Michigan.

Hope to learn a lot from the people here and have an early dilemma. The reason for posting in the MI thread is I'm hoping to get feedback from MI drivers.

I attended this school for ONE day and decided I needed more time. I should get my refund in total, with option to begin the early Dec course at the same institution.....if my research deems this school as typical.

Question for MI drivers; being above the imaginary line of Flint and Grand Rapids? What is your view on job placement for newly graduated CDL student? I need to take some time and do more research before I shell out around 4 grand and NOT land a job at the end of it all.

    Thanks! gmav

I still get job offers, but I tell them I have other obligations now that I am retired. It would be too much trouble to reactivate the CDL and medical card. Any job offer must be evaluated against the cost of commuting, etc. I don't need their health insurance. Working carries the usual risks of accident, injury or law suit. It is not worth it if you can get along on other finances.

Thanks. I guess some will let you bring the truck home and provide for the initial trip to their location south of here. Still figuring things out and it's not as though I'm too far north. Can be in Flint about 1 hour. Still a very green rookie here who is checking things out. Got 3 weeks to decide on the school, do research, and gather info. It does sound as though one needs to get 6 mo to 1 year OTR in order to be too picky.

    Thanks again!

We'll see about that. Should be a good game for a change.
