I hear the one in Jasper, Alabama is considered one of the premier driving schools in the nation. You can take your CDL paperwork and driving test at the school (The state must really trust these guys) and it is a community college school.

Take a look at Beville State in Summiton Alabama. It is not located in a big city and from what I understand there are some very reasonable hotel rates around there.

Look for a financial .pdf file and page 18 at the bottom left. It is actually the second of four pages in the .PDF file.

You would just need to find a training company. The ones that require a year will not train you. The advantage to the private school is this. You are not under the thumb meaning if you can't stand the company you don't have to hate your new job every day for a year. Plus a lot of training companies offer tuition reimbursement anyway. So you would get your money back anyway. I like having options. I don't want to be chained to a truck or a company.

I see a lot of people going to company paid schools. Is this the best way to get your CDL?I have seen a lot of glamour with these adds, from what I see they push you thru and you don't get a good experience, plus stuck with the company for one year. I look at a state run career center. The cost is $4350.00 this includes all expenses, Books, permit fees, DOT medical examination, all expenses associated with getting my CDL. THe only thing that is not covered is Hazmatfee and lodging. The other plus I see is you get more road time and can choose what company to work for. Does any one have some input about this or know how Apollo Caree Center (Lima Ohio) is for my schooling?

From what I've seen over the last couple months signing a 1 year contract with a company is not as big a deal as people make it out to be, if you quit you just have to pay them back and many companies prorate it based on the time you've stayed with them. If you go to a CDL school you still pay for it up front and then after graduating you still have a training period to go through with most companies anyway.

So why not go to a company sponsored school and if you stay a year many of them you don't have to pay back. Everyone will say your indebted to the company well your be indebted to the CDL school at 18% what'sthe difference. You can still quit it's not the military.
