2290 Now Due

Yea, I paid mine last year, and the year before, and they year before.........etc., I think that I am due for a free year. Since that is not likely to happen, I will pay mine the first of the week before leaving town.

 

I agree. After we pay for say......3 years, we get the 4th free!! Yea...that will work!!!

 

Most states require proof that the 2290 tax has been paid before they will allow you to get your base plate. Evidently, with the delay in passing the highway bill and renewing the 2290 tax, you may have fallen between the cracks. You should not have to pay the entire $550 since your truck was put in service after July. The feds prorate the cost according to when the truck was first put in service. Your local IRS office should have a schedule to help you calculate the exact amount you will need to pay. If it is not paid by the end of the month, you may have to pay a penalty and interest until it is paid. I think the minimum late charge is $50.
