Yea, I paid mine last year, and the year before, and they year before.........etc., I think that I am due for a free year. :biggrin_25525: Since that is not likely to happen, I will pay mine the first of the week before leaving town. :biggrin_25516:

I did e-file a couple of days ago for the first time and believe this is the best way to do it. Had my stamped receipt emailed to me and printed off in an hour. I'll never drive to my friendly local federal building again.

I just tagged my truck 2 weeks ago and my authority was just activated on Nov 18. I have not even hauled a load yet under my own authority, Do i still have to file the 2290?

Most states require proof that the 2290 tax has been paid before they will allow you to get your base plate. Evidently, with the delay in passing the highway bill and renewing the 2290 tax, you may have fallen between the cracks. You should not have to pay the entire $550 since your truck was put in service after July. The feds prorate the cost according to when the truck was first put in service. Your local IRS office should have a schedule to help you calculate the exact amount you will need to pay. If it is not paid by the end of the month, you may have to pay a penalty and interest until it is paid. I think the minimum late charge is $50.
