Using your example
CWTL pays 523 miles for a trip from Kansas City MO to Chicago IL
If you run up to Des Moines, its 527 miles
If you run across hwy 36, its 511 miles.
On a recent trip I was deadheaded from Blythe Ca to Calexico Ca
That paid 190 miles, I did it in 107, wow, I got paid for miles I didn't run.
If on the east coast, you will typically end up in the 6-8% out of route range.
With that, I would like nothing more for them to go to a zip to zip mileage.
But it the miles average out over time, yes can get killed on inter city miles, or when your in a suburb.
My typical out of route miles on average is less than 3%.

Not sure what having a advance account has anything to do with anybody managing their money or not.
It simply allows a driver to draw from for typical road expenses.
You are advanced .10 a mile to draw from when dispatched.
You can draw it from a company atm at terminals, comcheck, or cash on card.
If a person doesn't want to use it, they don't have to.
Personally, I try to keep my advances low.
Hmm, by doing this allows myself and my wife to manage our fiances better.
But I'm not above grabbing a 100 bucks at the beginning of the week, so I have pocket cash. I guess doing that, if I use your logic (flawed as it might be) I can't manage my money.
Others constantly draw all there advances out.
Don't really see the harm in that either, its effectively their money.
There is no penalty in doing so.
If a person draws all there money, blows it on the pinball machines, then has a unexpected road expenses, maybe that is what you are speaking of.
Also at CWTl, Cat scales are paid for via Comdata card at authorized fuel stops, mostly Pilots/Flying J's
Most tolls are covered by ezpass or pike pass.
Bridge crossing from Detroit to Windsor can also be paid via Comdata card.
Neither is charged back to the driver. -
Been here with them for many years, have made many friends here.
Am I in agreement with everything that goes on, nope.
But I have learned to take to bad with the good, and weight things out.
Pretty much at this moment comes out to a even balance.
Was I happy with the buyout thing, far from it.
Do I think things were better as CFI, Yes.
But it is what it is.
Do I speak up, and let others in management know how I feel, most certainly do.
Hopefully not to the point that I appear to be a obsessive whiner, as people that whine, or are always negative usually get zero results.
Am I a "fan", I wouldn't say so.
I just don't dwell on the negative.
Negativity breeds negativity, this is very true on the forums, as well as real life.
It is very hard to ever get a negative person to change.
Say if a person is a NASCAR fan, and they hate Jeff Gordon, as many do.
I would say it would be real hard to get that person to come to the fence, climb the fence, or come to the other side of the fence, even with all his accomplishments, they will typically always hate Jeff Gordon.
Now, if a Person is a Kyle Busch fan, Thinks he is the greatest driver ever, blah blah blah.
Kyle goes out and purposefully wrecks some other drivers, gets a dui.
Doesn't take long for that positive fan to start talking bad about Kyle, even though his accomplishments have not changed.
So simply to the O.P.
I would read everything I can, do as much research, talk to real life drivers, look at the equipment.
Take all the positive posts, and the negative post, come up with a average.
Good luck, I hope you make the right choice for YOU!
Happy Thanksgiving -

Any toll that accepts ezpass is paid for.
I don't know about the bridge, I don't go to Canada, but I would imagine it could be paid for by Comdata.mustang970 Thanks this. -
Another fact.....
Drivers who do not associate with other drivers, rarely understand the issues of other drivers.
I can't count the number of times I have spoken with drivers who constantly complain about low pay checks, or their personal financial condition. Only to realize an hour into our conversation. Their financial condition is caused by their inability to stay out of that advance account and their ATM cards. Their actual mileage and pay, has nothing to do with it.
$100 ??? I average less than $20 a week. Except when I purchase cigarettes in bulk. Which I do as often as possible (every 3-4 weeks), to save even more money.
Am I anal about money? My wife thinks so. But she'll be the first to tell you. When it comes to "money", we have it better than most people that make thousands more a year than I do. -
Ha that's funny, my wife would say I am anal about money too, but like you we live better than alot of people who make alot more than me. Managing money sucks but if done right pays off dividends in quality of life!

Thought I would chime in on this.
1) Companies people drive for are like women; due to differing individual habits no 1 company is right for everyone BUT every company (baring a few exceptions) is right for Someone
2) as far as routing it depends where your used to @ Conway I ran NE regional and was running at .5 to 1% out of route BUT I know the area. Out side of New England I'm probably in the 7% range. The miles they pay normally work out with the driver up some weeks and down others but looking over records I keep for the last 3 months they are up on me on avg. 7.33 miles which means I'm out about $8.20 a month which from what I hear is better then most companies
I like it at Conway and have friends that like it at Schneider, Carlisle, Heartland, and a few smaller fleets. Everything is good to someone just has to be a good matchmustang970 Thanks this.
