I think back in the sixtys this was known as a love in. Pretty sure we've got an old hippie here who's learned a few big words and is running a small cult of deniers spouting love, peace and "things aren't as they seem". Did a little more research and found out this guy's grandpappy was the fiddle player in the band that went down with the Titanic. It's a family tradition I guess.:puke:

    5 posts.....such wit and cunning sarcasim. :biggrin_25526:

What's so hard to believe when people say they are happy where they are employed? It's rare these days, you know, working for the 1% and all. Corporate meanies! So to some point I understand.....not!

I will pick up the torch for RWP and say that I'm certain neither of us are old hippies, we don't quite go back that far. However, we do go back as far as November 1978, a little place called Jonestown, 900+ drank the kool aid, the ones who didn't participate willingly, they got the needle or the lead. Sorry.........I got caught up in the hype :biggrin_25515:

Your statement infers that I am a follower, to which I am not. Rather, I'm a witness, as is RWP. I do not have as much tenure as RWP with USA, yet I still bear witness to the same. I would bet you know little about this industry, let alone USA, save the stretched truths that are reported in this forum. I say stretched because I believe that there are some threads of truth in the statements made here, but then they become tainted with (out) the omitted reality of the complete story. I.E. "what the employee did to contribute to their situation".

So...no love in here. We have nothing to gain. It's obvious that we are not looking to attract sympathy, none to be had here. Things are not perfect at USA, nor are they anywhere. If you have not walked the path, or bore witness, your hard pressed to make an assesment. :biggrin_255:

we're not drinking the kool aid either......never been that thirsty :biggrin_25513:

Poop flavored Kool-Aid. Yup I know what that tastes like. Every driver who has been at this for a while has had a taste. The recession that I believe we are finally thankfully clawing our way out of has been devastating to company profits and to driver wages. Anti company sentiment is at an all time high because drivers are underpaid relative to the sacrifices we make and the hrs we spend on the job being an OTR driver. And I think our justified grousing about this has also caused some anti driver feelings at these companies as well. A feeling that drivers are people more to be "dealt with" than "worked with". So what do we do about it? We need to communicate not just complain. We need to learn to criticize constructively and not just bash. We need to realize that, both literally and figuratively, we can be in the driver's seat if we will but use what power we do have as drivers to our mutual betterment. Our power is basically in our work records and our tenure. A driver that has worked at my company for 3 months and believes he will be listened to, treated as well or taken as seriously as I am is just kidding himself. And it doesn't matter if he's been driving for 25 years. He's going to have to start over here and start developing relationships again. That's just how the world works.
I haven't enjoyed this recession any more than you have but I am not ready to do something else nor am I ready to this job for somebody else. I'm going to sit tight and try to build on what I have. And whoever you work for I would advise you to do the same. Better Kool-Aid is coming. It never rains forever.

Well actually I have trouble believing #1, at least as far as newbies. I called a friend who works for drivers solutions. The company that does the funding for company paid training. I asked her if USA had changed their hiring criteria. She said " Not that I know of". So maybe their turnover rate has increased. That would cause a "high number of unmanned tractors".

Evidently RWP believes that your reporting they haven't changed their hiring standards is correct? He gave you a "thanks."

    $.42 a mile after 19 years?

    $53K a year? 2625 mi. average a week in a 60-61mph truck?

That crack don't smoke itself!! :biggrin_25525:

Empty tractors IMO = no freight.

The following user says thank you for this useful post. I guess that means different things to different people. For me it just means I enjoyed reading it. Nothing more.

See? I even thanked this guy and there wasn't one coherent thought in his post. But I went ahead and gave him an atta-boy for his spelling (Thank god for spell check, right?). Some people do better if you just give them a little encouragement:withstupid:
