I just graduated from Luzerne County Community College's Professional Truck Driving Program last week with no problems. Anyway, one of the recruiter's from Shaffer who normally comes in couldn't this time because he was on vacation for a few weeks. He'll be back on Monday (which is when I plan to speak with him). I'm 21 years old, and I noticed on the website that the minimum age requirement is 22. Am I screwed? Just wondering whether or not I'm going to need to contact that Schneider recruiter or not.

He and a recruiter from Swift came in during the class as well. Of course, after what I've read here, Swift isn't really number one on my list. Schneider, however, was my first interest (again, before I started coming to these forums). They don't seem to get a ton of praise here, but I still wouldn't count them at yet, at least as a good place for me to start and get my year of experience in.

I've been looking into other companies as well. Seems like most of the higher rated companies require 1 year OTR. I'm hoping to get in with Crete/Shaffer right from the start. I've read a lot of good things about them. I don't think I could do much better starting out with no experience.

if you really check out the company that advertises the most like crete/shaffer trucking, etc., could only mean one thing a high turnover rate. they will tell you anything to get you in the door that is what recruiting is supposed to do. what needs to happen is the whole industry needs to be unionized. this way it will cut out all of the wrongdoings from each company and make them responsible for not living up their expectations. it is a dirty industry to get involved with. if i had to do all over i would not have gotten involved. i do not know you, and to be honest with you and believe me when i say this, you would be better off working in a factory. at least you will be treated fairly there and get what you want out of a company, you will be able to have a life. you do not have a life here in this type of work. making plans will not happen being on the road all the time. your personal life is put on hold. when my cdl comes up for renewal at this point i will say goodbye to the cdl. it is not worth the headaches and the troubles you go through. you will hear different people telling you something totally different and that is their right. a driver should get paid for fueling up their truck and these companies will not pay you. doing a pre-trip inspection on your truck. you do not get paid to do that. have a friend that works for crete. they owe that driver 34 hours worth of detention but they refused to pay that driver and that was over 2 months ago. the amount they owed that driver is $340, to me that is alot of money. these bad companies will slip up one day and do bad things to the wrong driver and something bad will happen. there needs to be laws in place to punish companies for not doing what they promised. i beg and plea with you and take my advice and you will look back on this and you will be glad you took this free advice and it did not cost you nothing but your time. best of luck to you.
