the galloway is a much better hotel..believe me...i got my pads at walmart....the latches on the pads from the store will break real easy... remember if you get confused in the barn just remember..your trainer will help you one on one...when you get in the trainer truck....and DONT carry ANYTHING down the side of the trailer if your on the deck...if you have to step around the "coils"..put BOTH hands on them when you step around

Thanks I really appreciate all the advice. Hope I can hook up with a good trainer that lives near me. So glad I chose Maverick.

bjb2448 did you have to wait for a trainer very long? Are you with a trainer now? How's it going?
-
your trainer has already been picked for you....within the first few days of securement training....he will call you when your close to finishing barn training and introduce himself...im still with my trainer....i think ill be turned loose around the 2nd or 3rd week of december..they try to get one that lives close to you....sometimes that work and sometimes it dont....i got a little lucky mine lives in west memphis arkansas...which is about 3 hours west from where i live....so when i go back after this break we were given i wont be back home till i get assigned my truck....ill stay in the hotel he has arranged while hes home...hope everything works out for you...welcome to the team!

My trainer as I was assigned to lived 1100 miles from my house. But the hotel I stayed in was nice and it made coming home that much sweeter. I was a gone a total of 7 weeks. If you want it bad enough, adversity doesn't stand in the way. Oh yeah, flatbedding is hard work. Your first week out on the road, you will question why you are doing this. But it will get easier. Goodluck fellas.

first six months are tough as hell, and they don't go easy on you because your new. the key to being successful during your first few months is communication with your transitional fleet manager, Charlie. have any issues? ring his bell, his goal is to help you succeed. after a while, it gets easier and quicker.
this is a tough time of the year to jump into flats, frozen tarps suck.Steveo2Drive Thanks this. -
Yeah Charlie has been great so far.

Always watch what the other drivers are doing. How they approach and get set up to pull in to a loading area. Where they go after they load. I have also learned things by watching drivers from other companies and independents.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. I also got a lot of help from the shippers when I let them know it was my first time there and that I was new.
Most of them will go out of their way to help you.
