Letter from the NC DOT...

Does it really? Or are you just wishing?

 

They are only scratching the surface. It's going to get worse.

 

Its getting time for me to sell my truck and start selling drugs for the federal government. Or maybe I can transport it for them

 

You're young, been spoon fed BS by the government, and are niave enough to buy it. Even the 20 year drivers have no idea of how much things have really changed in the past 30-plus years.

This stuff had to gradually work it's way in by starting with young school age kids. If thrown onto the drivers in the 60's and 70's, there would have been a revolt, but since 9/11, there has been an effort to control the population. You were only 16 when that happened, and have been subject to ever increasing loss of freedoms since. Now that's all you know, so these new regulations seem normal.

It sure is funny how freight got moved for many years without Qualcomm, GPS, cell phones, about 1/4 the scale houses, almost no super coops, fewer DMV officers. There has been an effort to paint all us old drivers as doped up, crazed maniacs, with rolling bombs speeding down the highway at 100 mph. This has been done in order to convince new drivers for the need of more and more regulations.

There were some bad trucks then, just as there are plenty now. The big difference is then, a large percentage of drivers were mechanical enough to do many/most repairs themselves, and kept their trucks up.

Look at what we have now, tens of thousands of people that have never driven anything larger than a Honda Accord with an automatic transmission. Have worked in an office or factory, lost their jobs, couldn't find another, and suddenly proclaim their life long desire to be a truck driver. If that was the case, why not have become a driver 15 years ago.

These big companies churn out hundreds of under trained, unqualified drivers every week, then make them trainers in three months. Now every new driver thinks it's normal to have to stay out at least two months at a time, with only a few days off. They say that's the "lifestyle" of trucking, if you don't like it, get out. They proclaim that being treated like total crap, and being talked down to by company personel, is all part of trucking.

In the 70's, the first person in a company that pulled the type of bull that is being offered up today would have been picking himself up off the floor. Many a owner, dispatcher, ect, have got their face popped for much less back when a drivers first move in a trucking company wasn't to get a jar of Vaseline and bend over.

Go ahead and spout "tin foil hat" all you want. You don't know how bad you really have it, because you have been fed a bunch of BS on how things were, and as to how these new regulations that will pull the noose around your neck tighter are necessary.

 

The noobs think that plexiglass between them and dispatch is bullet proof....cuz of the crazies.

Well, it's NOT bullet proof. It was put it place to reduce the number of broken noses.

Guns and Bullets are today's generation of drivers. Bullet proof will come.

I'll take it one further - Most of us who've served in the military, been driving truck for decades, and those who know the things that made this country great still are holding onto a love of what our country once stood for, but now have a deep hatred for todays government. A very passionate hatred for the way government operates these days.....

Here in MS I've had to show a current med card the past 2 renewals.

 

You know...with my background....(fire department, mortuary)....out here in CA, we call the "medical examiner" a different title....

And I believe, NY, CT, and VT have the same "title" for the "officer of death declaration"...[that description is from Great Britain and Australia]...

So here is the real question:

1. To get a "certificate" from the "medical examiner"...aka Coroner...aka officer of death declaration....would you get an exemption, or an additional endorsement, or a handicap parking space....for being declared DEAD while operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle?

2. Will Swift, England, and all the other "training companies" be required to lower, or raise their "minimum standards" for new hires.
3. Would this mean we can vote more than once in the upcoming Presidential Election? We could vote as a living citizen, then as a dead CDL holder!

Must be that chemical in the turkey that has my brain working overtime to catch these fine points in our FMCSA Guidelines!

 

I switched my NC license over to Colorado this past Summer. I wonder if the same letter will be sent to my old address?
I don't really understand what the point of what they're trying to do is, though. Your CDL should already have the endorsements and restrictions on it. Has NC added something recently as far as that goes, or changed the codes?
