My Whistling Turbo

Only way to stop the whistling is to remove the turbo. Or roll up the window and turn up the radio.

Unless of course you think the whistling is abnormal, not quite sure what your looking for with this thread.

 

You may want to check the seal on the air filter cover, but it could be coincidental that you may have air to air boot clamps that need retorqued.

 

Are you sure it's a whistle?

You need to check to see if either wheel is rubbing the housings also.

It's odd that the noise increased after an air filter change. This makes me want to look at the compressor wheel and housing first.

The hump hose and clamps..........the air to air aftercooler for leaks.......the o-rings on the cast elbow on the turbo outlet for an air leak

 

Check all your hose clamps.

You're describing an air leak.

 

Split boot, maybe one of the bellows?

 

Sometimes minor exhaust leaks like at turbo flanges will cause squeals or whistles like this to.

 

are your EGTs higher and boost lower?

 

You are right here. Mine started to make this noise last year. I replaced the air to air boots and clamps; tested the air to air for leaks. Even replaced the turbo. I found the problem a few months ago when I replaced my exhausi system. On my turbo, there is a short tail section on the exhaust side that connects to flex pipe. The leak was where the these two joined. I missed this when I replaced the turbo because I didn't have to break this joint. New flex and clamp and now all I here is that classic "Cat call."
