My checking account $800 limit per day on atm/debit transactions. I found that out one day when I bought a money order for our rent and then tried to buy lunch. Since its a rare occurance to hit that limit, I didn't change it.
Maybe wrong forum, but I really hate how truckstop ATM's screw the driver!

Since you know that, when you need to use one, make it worthwhile and don't be pulling out $20 a a clip...

Check out the ATM fee at a strip club sometime...lol

I use Comchecks. Usually have to fuel once a day, and even if I don't the fee for a Comcheck is usually going to be less than an ATM for the amount of cash I carry. And if I have already transferred my money into my checking account than I just use my debit card for all transactions until I can get to a Walmart.

It costs more money to setup a machine that dispenses singles.
CondoCruiser, 07-379Pete and JIMS2006C6 Thank this. -
This doesn't include the service fee you're most likely charged for using a 3rd party ATM.
I was singing the praises of Wells-Fargo when I hit up a service plaza in MD, knowing I wasn't going to be charged any service fees.

What I don't get is why you can't get cash back at a truck stop. Actually, I know why, so they can charge you to get it. I can go to almost any gas station and get cash back back but never at a truck stop.

Why even use an ATM while out on the road? Take out a large enough sum of cash for the smaller incidentals while you are on home time and then use the card at the point of sale for your larger purchases (meals, etc) while you are out.

My bank now even charges a $2 fee for using a non-bank ATM....so that's $2 bank fee PLUS the $3.50 ATM fee or $5.50 EVERY TIME I use an ATM on the road.....that is why I try to avoid the ATMs as much as possible.

I hate ATM's with a passion. I can remember when they cost you nothing. Then they come out with these portable ones and the charges started. Then it evolved to the banks charging.
I seen fee's all the way up to $3.50 and then the bank hit you on their end too. They control the amount of cash too. $1.50 is not a good deal if it limits you to $200 versus one that charges $2 and lets you have $400.
The way I deal with it is use your debit card as much as possible. Then I use the cashback option which cost nothing to get $20-100 depending on the store. If for some reason I need a larger amount of cash, I found many grocery stores you can go to the service desk and ask for cash back. It doesn't cost you a penny. One time I remember, I asked for and got $600. They just ring it up like a debit purchase. Another one I went to had a $200 limit. Screw the ATM's.
Banks are like airlines anymore. They are finding everything they can to tag a charge onto.
