They like to burn, European electric system is not designed to last million miles, they were never interested in building trucks that last this long in Europe because there is no true ownership whatsoever - all trucks are leased for few years and then replaced but f-k that. Here is another Volvo ad directed at those drivers who like to sit high with their head touching the windshield for better vehicle control

the best Volvo headlamps were on F12 and N12, later on early NH and FH.
In Europe '98 Version had the same cab and exterior as first FH trucks and headlamps were good. But In the USA they put Car style headlamps with plastic lens. But truck runs more miles then car and lens go bad in first 3-4 years. In Europe they use glass lens. I sugested they will do it with US Version-II but... no one can make so big bent glass for low cost so they use plastic. And the only way to keep vision is HID and annual resanding.
Volvo headlamps are bad, but Columbia headlamps (donor Mercedes ML) are the same bad!
Ok, belive me new International, Mack and Cascadia headlamps with plastic lens woud be so bad 5 years later. -
That's cause we have more mooses than y'all do down here. Those big suckers are dark brown/black 'cept for their lighter colored lower legs. By the time regular headlights pick those up you are SOL big time. Real fun when you gots 6 ft snowbanks on each side an the mosse is laying down on the road thinkin about moose things.

Pablo, thing is Volvo VN low-beam is weak FROM FACTORY. I was driving 2 brand new ones and one with low miles (Ver-2 as you call them, triangle lights) and they were c-rap. Then, they get even worse, I have heard they peel out inside, it's not just the plastic cover problem. When I get into my Pete I was shocked at how fn bright low-beam could be. And if you want to know - after 5.5 years its still great and plastic cover is still good.
You want to know why is that? Because this is Peterbilt Way. Simple light with no high-tech lenses BS built well enough to last the life of the truck without giving the driver a grief and make him wanna run high-beam because he is fn scared he gonna hit deer or run into something at 75 mph.
How they can advertise Volvo truck being all about SAFETY is beyond me -
You only need the guard...if your both blind and stupid

All those lights you could see a fly from 3 miles away. -
HID only helps.... I know
I like Actros headlamps -
Is there a way to avoid excessive glare ?
-
The only way to avoid glare - low beam projectors with HID. According EU laws if there is not air suspention in vehicle headlamp leveling system must be installed. But all semis got air suspention now.
EU and US HID projectors differ with shield. In the USA symmetrical pattern is legal, in EU - not,
