a used truck with a big sleeper sure. But a used truck that needs to be streched to add a sleeper seems like a waste of money and weight. When you strech a truck the frame insert has to over lap what 2-3 feet on either side of the cut. so a 5' streach means 9-11' of extra frame on either side of the truck, thats allot of wasted weight for 5' strech. When you spec a truck you just tell them how long of a frame you want an walla.
I've seen some DIRT CHEAP deals on trucks with the sleepers on them, there was a green 379 (formerly a mayflower truck) with a 135" sleeper for $25,000 in the TruckPaper not to long ago, but thats way to big of a sleeper for me.

44 to 45K is van weights. This is flat bedding were 45 to 50K is the norm.
53 foot flats wont become the industry standard. You thinking like a door slammer. How many time have you had that 53 foot van full from nose to tail and grossed 80K?
Is there a call for 53 foot flats and step? Sure there is, but like I said I've havent had a full 48 foot load in some time now and only a few times before I had a sidekit.
So your basing the 53 foot because of container loads? Most container loads are 2 40's or smaller, not many 48 foot containers are shipped on a flat. Like I said 53 foot flats load are out here but on avg dont pay any more than the 48 foot loads.
Next time your roaming the truck stops look how many O/O's have 53 foot trailers vs company trucks. Theres a reason.
And with the setup like your wanting the only time I have ever seen it they were hauling jet engines on a dedicated account that as far as I know you really have to have some inside pull to even get leased on too, and I haven't seen vary many of them in the last few years.American-Trucker and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
DO NOT! buy a truck from Shelby Elliot!

By the time you rebuild everything that's worn out on a truck like that....You'll be out of business!Old Man, 07-379Pete and SL3406 Thank this. -
Just wanted to let it be known. With my volvo and now my pete I have only hauled 44,200 a few times and usually I run between 32,000 and 42,000 most of the time. I haul alot of coils and do run pipe also. I could haul more if needed but most generally doesn't pay any better then what I choose to haul. Just my expierence. Good Day.

only thing i was thinking about containers is i was told Hauling MT containers out of CA pays more then loaded in, and that would be a easy way out of ca. I've been trying to talk to as many fb'ers as i can this seems to have been a concern for most, getting a 53 and being able to haul as many types of loads as possible.
I hope they dont go to 53s i like the idea of 5 feet more room to move lol

Who's That?

A crook in Missouri that sells worn out super sleeper trucks to unsuspecting fools for way more money than they'd be worth even if they were'nt worn out.American-Trucker and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
My first truck I bought in 78' didn't have a sleeper let alone long enough for one! But one weekend we did a stretch on it and added a sleeper. Didn't need nothing fancy for a few hour "nap". My sholders hit both walls when I laid flat, even had a tv! Black and white screwed to the one wall end.
Randyvolvodriver01 Thanks this.
