Why did you wait a year? That CDL has a shelf life (that's a requirement made by the trucking cos insurance carrier )and you may have to take a refresher class.Try applying at Swift, they might take you but you will have to spend up to 2 months in a trainers truck and you will go OTR.

I had my CDL almost 3 years before I hit the road but that was due to I owned a business and thought I could had sold it in time, but that didn't happen.Anyway talk to smaller companies they may be easier to get on with.

Umm no nothing more to the story the recruiters won't even do any type of checks I tell them I graduated from CDL school had a very serious family emergency that I needed to deal with at home and got a job doing non driving stuff so I could be home and now that it's over I'm trying to drive again. they all say well you need 6 months OTR experience within the last 2 years if you are not a recent grad.

Does anyone know how much a refresher course cost? How long they are?

I checked with Crowder College and they want $450 a day. Most companies will want at least a week refresher. I spoke to a recruiter at Schneider and he said I would need a week but there is a $3500 sign on bonus which I am guessing they will pay$150 a month towards my refresher in lieu of the bonus.
