I'm used to dealing with scania and Volvo here, have to say service is brilliant! Even when u go out of warranty both will cover you for a while, scania especially , they will replace parts on other people's warranty, I have a good relationship with scania so that helps I guess, but the local scania dealer will even fix my thermoking fridge and claim the warranty from thermoking,

Ther are several local operators who cannot get any satisfaction from the great Paccar warranty over here. I know at least three operators who have to try and schedule the trucks to run into Holland(1,000kms) away to try and get some satisfaction from the the Dutch dealers.

Scania,Mercedes,Volvo,Iveco all seem to have no great problem reaching 1.5 million kms,but the Daf's just seem to die at 600,000kms.

I am very doubtful how this engine will perform Stateside....maybe good for the first few years, but after that I am very pessimistic about its performance. These are a throwaway engine once they start acting up

That was a big blow to get as a fledgling transport operator....paying for a truck which you did not have?

Yes Iveco!.....Believe it or not! We have seen several Ivecos go well beyond the million kms without any problems. They give a lot of other bother, but they seem to build a good engine at least. Apparently Iveco engines are rated as the number one choice for generators and water pumps in the middle east.

Iveco Trucks got good engines. But I''m not sure about European operations, but here... Iveco wiring made for smooth roads. here roads are rouht so drivers know about wiring issue and they do not want to drive Iveco

In fairness I haven't heard of many iveco engines blowing up, chances are it's in the garage so often for other problems that the engine doesn't put up much mileage lol, only joking but everything else is quiet ####e on them, a friend has a stralis and it's constantly in the garage! Build quality is really bad especially!

    Hi
Ihave been reading these posts and it would seem that paccar products are not very reliable ,well thats what it my fellow irishmen would have you believe ,
One of the largest operators in ireland on european work has nearly all daf trucks with the rest been iveco and a small amount of mercedes
The largest own account fleet in ireland is 100% daf trucks for 20 years or more
In England Daf /Paccar have over 20 % of the total market for some years
Ihave seen daf xe engines with over 1 million kilometers no problem with only head gaskets and core plugs been replaced,in fact a 1999 xf 430 has 1.6 killometers at the moment and still returning 7 mpg.
Daf had a serious problem compressor fitted to that engine which caused air valve problems and the head gasket issue should never have been let happen ,overall a dam fine truck and i would have no problem working them hard as the are very well screwed together and stay that way ,
also have a 08 MX engined XF , fitted a turbo at 357 kms otherwise no problems
    Cheers
    Bill

Delighted for you Bill....for light work they are a possibility....for heavy work, they give endless trouble...meanwhile I have seen yet another local one blow up over Christmas which was at hard(bulk tipper)work.

357,000km = 223,000 miles in four years....hardly a great advert for reliability.....something like 800,000miles in four years would be something to begin to pass a compliment on.

DAF may have 20% of the market in the UK...perhaps because they make the RHD units there....but they have slipped dramatically in their market share in Ireland over the last four years.

Talk to the workshop staff in Co.Wexford of one of Ireland's larger operator, and they will tell you what they think of DAF and their products. They will also tell you about the special warranty conditons and backup they receive that samller operators cannot seem to get?
