My husband actually attended and graduated from their Truck Driver Training program. He was the 2001st graduate of the program since they instituted it.
He took the night class and worked during the day. It ran 5:30-10:30 Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays 9-5pm. They have a full-time DOT guy on staff as well. The class had about 16 people, and all but one graduated.
His particular class ran August 17-November 17 2011. Upon graduation he was able to get his CDL A with Tankers and Doubles endorsements.
He spoke pretty highly of the instructors and most of the classmates seemed like upstanding guys. There is always that one you question, but for the most part, he said he had a great group.
He was offered pre-hired positions with several big names, but in the end he chose McElory Truck Lines out of Pleasant Hill, NC. He starts orientation there tomorrow. That's where we will really see if the training he got at CFCC was worth the money paid out or not.
I know that when we talked about all the things they covered, they pretty much did it all, so he is going into his class pretty confident. I'm sure having so many hours in the truck driving already helps too. I just hope that when he gets there and gets nervous, he remembers what his instructors taught him.
