    Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. So once I finish my 3 weeks of training in Marshfield, will I go straight onto a trainers truck for 13 days? Just trying to get as much info, I am a man of detail. From what I understand I would then go home and next go to my nearest yard to test out. Does this sound right? Thanks again - and yes I will gladly keep a diary of what training is like and post it hear.

    no you will go home and a trainer will come and fetch you...your 3rd week in marshfield will be phase 1...and then you go home, your trainer will pick you up and then after a few days out with a trainer you will test out wherever they send you...could be gary, appleton,marshfield, or ellenwood...it just depends on where you are at the time...

    That's why I feel flying would be the easiest way for me. Hauling my truck 1400 miles up and then back in 3 weeks, paying for gas and all the other expense seems to only make sense to fly (cheaper). Knowing I would be done in 3 weeks, I can just do a round trip ticket. WouldI for sure be done the 3rd Friday or play it safe and arrange a flight back on Saturday? I live in the Tampa Bay area, how often are loads running my way. I am not concerned about home time once I am in my own truck, just curious if loads get dipatched very oftern with Roehl down towards the Tampa Bay area? This thread is a great help.

    Yes they do. I've used a cab a couple of times. I forget the name of the company.

    If you want to drive for Roehl, I wouldn't bother going to the time and expense of getting the HAZMAT endorsement. We don't do much Hazmat at all, and I bet it's practically nonexistant in the reefer division. Instead, I would spend the time and money on getting a passport if you don't have one. We don't go down into Mexico (thankfully), but we do go into Canada occassionally.

    I'm glad I haven't had to go to Canada. The extra papers seems confusing. I'd like to have gone with a trainer but I didn't have passport at that time.

    I have only been up there a few times in the short time I have been here. Mostly for VW out of Jersey but those runs are easy because they do all the leg work for you. You just have to make one phone call.

    Thanks, i just received my new passport/passport card. I was amazed!

    The guy at the post office said that I should expect to receive my new passport by 21 Dec without paying the $60 expediting fee, so I didn't.

    And my passport showed up Dec 5th!!

    One of the very few times my government has actually exceeded my expectations in a positive way!!!

    Hazmat stuff already paid for and test passed, just waiting on the background check to be completed. So, while Roehl doesn't require it, it was already in progress.

    I'm not going to Roehl after all. According to the recruiter, they didn't like my long period of unemployment. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about that. And honestly, if I hadn't had that long period of unemployment, I probably wouldn't be looking to drive a truck. Just not a lot of high tech senior management positions available in my area. I find it interesting that I can be entrusted to run a $554M product line for IBM, but not to drive a truck for Roehl or Maverick.

    The recruiter said that the "hiring committee" wrote on my application to "have applicant reapply once they have 6-months driving experience".

    So, we'll see if I'll want to do that after I've been driving for 6 months, probably not.

    Canada isn't too bad.....I don't mind it so much..the Toronto traffic leaves much to be desired....it really sucks...
