Looks like I stirred up quite a storm with this thread. Being knew to the industry I wasn’t sure how other truckers handled the training situation. I’ve seen many mixed responses and I do appreciate everyone’s advise. I would like to add a couple things…
To everyone who told me ‘not push my lifestyle onto them’ or any comments of the same, let me ask this; If you are married, do you talk about your spouse and kids? Do you not point out the hot ‘babe’ with the big ##### in the red convertible? I call that making your sexual preference very clear. So you are being hypercritical by telling me not to do exactly what you will do. If you don’t want to listen to me talk about my personal life, than you shouldn’t be talking about yours.
I’m NOT looking to have sex with my trainer. I asked my question to get some input…intelligent input…from experienced truckers, not to be insulted, ridiculed or demeaned. I realize that some people may not like me because I’m gay, or because I’m white, or because I’m short, or because I’m Irish, or because I’m thin, or for many reasons. I have my prejudices also, everyone does. I was thinking more of my trainer having issues than me. That’s why I asked the question in the first place. To figure out should I say something upfront, or keep my fingers crossed that my trainer doesn’t figure it out. It’s called being respectful. I’m sure a black man wouldn’t want a white trainer who doesn’t like black people. I don’t need to have my trainer throwing my things out at some truck stop leaving me there waiting for another trainer to pick me up…or for me to find my own way home (as a couple of you have said you would do).
For those of you who think that having a gay trainee would make you uncomfortable because we’d be checking you out…GET OVER YOURSELF! If we (gay men) know you are straight, you are safe. Gay men don’t hit on straight men (unless we don’t know you are straight)…especially ones we are going to be living with on the road for weeks in a room the size of my walk in closet.
Like I said, I only asked the question to get advice from other truckers and I thank all of you who gave me professional, helpful and useful advice.

One of the companies I was pre-hired with. I would love to hear what you think about them. I've gotton lots of advice about Swift, US Express, CR England, Werner, but haven't heard much about Trans Am.

Don't care if you talk about it but don't cry foul when I say something hurtful to you. My problem with gay's isn't the fact that there gay but with those who choose to make an issue about there sexuality and then don't understand why people discriminate against them.
No because shockingly my lifestyle is much more accepted than yours.
What did you think was going to happen? That we would all support your "bravery" for coming out? No I'm going to give you my opinion. I don't feel sorry for you if you have been hurt, you knew what was going to happen.
I know I know, I'm just a closet homosexual who bashes gays. I'm also an ignorant bigot. There I saved some of you some typing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and their sexual preference. You don't have to like it but at least acknowledge it and respect it. There is no xxx xxxx reason why people cant ******* get along. I have a friend who is the stereotypical fling of the wrist type and is "black" and "gay" He is one of coolest people I have ever met.

Wow. So you're one of the Kool Kids. We're all so sorry that we might have offended someone popular. How will we ever live with ourselves...? :biggrin_2555:

I don't give a beer fart in a windstorm what's "accepted." If dude isn't violating the rights of anyone else,* he doesn't deserve to be screwed with.

    That's The Way I See It. :biggrin_2558:

    * And, no...I've read the Constitution, and it doesn't say anything about you having the right not to be offended. Cope.

    Hey Boyrobbie

    Good comeback, by the way!

But you should also check out Watkins Shepard Trucking. They offer 10 day training with No Trainer! :biggrin_255:

But they are in Montana and they may not have as much work in the east coast. They also have a good reputation on this board.

    Just something to consider
