Thanks, HW. What do you think are the long-term benefits of working for either company? Do you still think Con-Way Freight wins out in the end? I'm willing to put my time in if the end result is going to be better in the long run.

I worked as a package handler at UPS thru high school and it was a 12 year wait to get a route. I worked 5pm to 9pm for 2 years and made about $180 a week. From that they take $18wk union dues. But for a kid in HS it was good money. And I used it to supplement working the farm. As an adult, only way I would go to UPS was of it were a driving position up front.

Do you still work for UPS?
By the way, thanks everyone for the info. I really appreciate it very much. -
It's s long drive for Conway. Is moving out of the question?
Oh, I would go with Conway too.

Yes; moving is out of the question.

Thanks, HW. What are the other cons with regard to working for UPS? Since you've obviously worked for them for quite some time and are at the top of the line(?), I'm figuring you know what you're talking about. By the way, in your job, do you have to stay out more than one or two nights in a row driving the big rig?

I don't drive for UPS or Conway. But my company is LTL just like those 2 companies.
I drive linehaul(OTR). I drive around 400 or 500 miles one way, go the hotel, and comeback the next day.
Now with enough seniority, we have runs that get you home the same day.
Conservative to the Bone.jakebrake12 and Boonie Thank this. -
Keep in mind this is getting to be the busiest time of the year for UPS as far as pkg. count. what happens after the holidays?
Boonie Thanks this. -
Yeah, I get laid off unless they change their minds. But that's okay as it is at least getting my foot in the door with an opportunity to get them to like me. Not to mention it is more than what I have going on right now. Glass half full concept.
At least the big boss over at Con-Way Freight must really like me as he wanted to hire me on the spot, tried to get me to work in the office, and afterwards even called the day before Thanksgiving to let me know he'd put my application on hold (I turned the current driver apprentice job down because it was a two-hour drive and wanted to wait for an opening at a closer terminal) and he wished me happy holidays. He also just now sent me an e-mail in case I was interested in another local company that is going to be looking for employees. My husband said it was because I have big (.)(.)'s, lol.
Did I say that?
