Why would UPS Freight hire CDL holders right out of trucking schools if they don't plan on letting them drive for ten years? Why would said CDL holders even bother to work for a company like that? The 9-5 part would be okay, but I'm more of a night person and certainly don't expect to just end up working only 40 hours a week driving a semi.

I realize the driver helper job is temporary. That's the way I want it so I can find out more about the company, get them to like me (just in case), and not have to be tied down to a job I may not want in the end. All is good.

He's talking about Parcel not UPS Freight.

They bother with it because they can top out at 100-140K driving a feeder truck (UPS doubles).

I did 87K in 2010 at Con-way in 2010 and if I bid the runs could do 100-105K. That's not 100-140K with union benefits and job protection.

I personally prefer to be non-union but the UPS companies work very well with it and there is something to be said about the legitimate job protection they have and I do not..

Hmmm, I'm 38 and self-employed, making good money. Maybe it would be worth it to stay with parcel until a feeder position opens up? I take it that UPS feeders make more than the drivers at top pay with UPS Freight?

Sorry meant 75 days. And as I was reading the UPS freight drivers top out at 24 a hour I believe. Friend of mine works for them in NJ. UPS freight will hire you right away but may be stuck on dock for a bit. It's the old overnite company which my friend also say used to be a very shady company and a lot of UPSF drivers from overnite are mad about the UPS buyout

UPS has better benefits and a retirement pension for the long run. They pay OT after 8 hours.
The non- union company's you make less and pay more out of your pocket.
If your looking to be home at night ,you may want to look at another line of work !

Yes he does, I have seen his pay statements as he showed me them before I quit I my job to go work elsewhere. he was trying to get me to ride out the 11yr wait for a route and that was back in 2000. He has over 45yrs with UPS Parcel and he just retired last summer. Now he collects his $6,000 a month retirement thru UPS and his Union........ he just bought a $250,000 camper and left last friday for his house in San Diego which he bought :biggrin_25514:

Did he get to be home every night, too, while employed with UPS Parcel?
