You do know that any company can and does do that though right?
Steven does it, CR England does it......so does Prime and PAM. All the contract carriers do it. They hire about 50-60% more people than they need and flunk you out if you dont meet their standards.
Being hired prior to orientation is no safe guard. In fact, you DO NOT want to be hired prior to orientation. If you go with McElroy and they let you go during orientation, its no big deal. You never worked for them and you dont even have to list them as a previous employer. Subsequent companies never know you were fired.
Get hired first and dont make orientation and now you have been fired. Any incidents that caused it go on your DAC report or you are branded an unsafe or unqualified driver.
Why would you sell yourself short over what might happen? Stevens cant shine Mr. McElroys shoes. You will make twice the money with McElroy and be home every single weekend and all major holidays. Not to mention, putting McElroy on a future application looks a hell of a lot better than Stevens.
Cowboy up, put faith in yourself and go for the brass ring. Dont settle for 75th place. If TDI is providing you with the proper training and you do your part, you wont have a problem.
Starting TDI in Oxford, AL tomorrow

What are the living arrangements like at this school. Are you in a motel or a dorm room? How much is the room and do you get a discount? I know someone that is looking for a school in Alabama so I have been following your posts too

Everything still going satisfactory. Our head man today let my small class of 3 go ahead and take a few of our final tests for the school today, since he thought we were a bit ahead of where classes usually are. All I have to do now is be graded on the pre trip and road test. Both should be easy. Then it's off to the state for my license test.
I have another company in high consideration, which would be BTC. A trainer driver and his student stopped by today to show us the truck and tell us about the company, and how he likes it. they both said things I really liked to hear. We have an official recruiter coming tomorrow. they currently have a hiring freeze, but since I am already prehired, I am safe. Going to see what they say tomorrow. -
I graduated on Nov. 4th from TDI in murfreesboro, tn. I would tell any driver that wants go training to go to a TDI school. I graduated at the top of my class, I aced my PTI inspection, aced the range test and DESTROYED the road test. I was driving my first day with the senior class, because I shifted so smooth and effortless. I'm going out with my trainer in the morning, I decided to go with Knight trans. I received a pre-hire from McElroy as well, I just never checked in to them seeing as how i live in Memphis, tn and Knight is 5 minutes from my home.

I received the go ahead from McElroy today for orientation Dec 12th. Just in time too, because BTC said they wouldn't be able to let me know anything before Dec 19th, and I am not willing to wait 3 weeks after graduation just to see if I can work for them, and then orientation would be after the first of the year. If for some reason McElroy were to fall through, I always have Stevens to fall back on. Though I REALLY want to do flatbed over van/refer. I also have Maverick on the list, and am waiting for a call back from them for the final approval.
Will take my finals for the school tomorrow, both the road test and pre trip inspection. I have no worries about either. Then off to take the state test Monday, very early (alarm set for 2:30am, leave from the school at 5am). Here goes nothin'! -
dont you go test out of jacksonville dps?

Passed the school finals with flying colors. 94 on the pre trip and 93 on the road test.
I'm also now considering Boyd Bros. over McElroy. It's more local, has tuition reimbursement and offer extra pay and bonuses where McElroy does not. Base pay is only $0.03 less at Boyd Bros. than McElroy.123456 Thanks this. -
Woke up at 2:30, about to leave to go do my test, the final step in this process. Should pass no problem, unless something really unexpected happens.
