I think Artisan is Landstar but I think they changed the name again. We move some automotive freight for Artisan once in a while and I think they changed their name. It used to be good work but now they flat rate it with no fuel surcharge and are very fussy on paper work. Needing time in /time out printed and signed name of shipper, printed and signed name of receiver, odd ball receiving times etc. Plus it's generally cheap unless you are doing it on a Fri night with no load back home. It's gotten so bad we turn it down a lot.

Was doing some research on another issue and came across some interesting facts. Was in on Yahoo Finance and found that average LS BCO gross revenue for 2010 was roughly $162,000. Where I am leased, Fremont Contract Carriers, out of Fremont, NE, my gross last year was over $174,000. I don't have to play load board games and planning loads and I make more than the average BCO at Landstar. Plus no trailer rental fees and other nickel and dime stuff that Landstar hits it's BCO's with. Just a simple $10 a week for the Qualcomm.

The difference being they're clearing more than you and not working as hard to do it. Gross doesn't mean much.

It is the net that is really important in any business endeavor. You can gross $1 million a year and not make a profit. It is what you stick in your pocket that is what is important. Without profit you won't be in business very long.

What's your contract with FCC mileage or percentage? Who or how is your IRP paid for, how about fuel,mileage,ad volarem taxes? How about disability ins? Do you pay for that out of pocket or does FCC provide that at no additional cost? Who's you Fuel administrator? Comdata, or someone else?

How often are you home and how often was that average LS BCO home? That can be the biggest thing right there. I can tell you I know for a fact that I have grossed over 160K to my company truck and I am home pretty much every weekend.
I'm just saying that there is to many variables which we will never get to see from the LS side of that average to make the decision on who profited more.
What if they drove 20K miles less then you in 2010? Thats a HUGE factor. -
I've noticed he's posting this in every recent Landstar thread out there. I'd like to know what he netted as well. Something tells me he's got an axe to grind.

My neighbor who left LS this year and tried to get me to go RGN showed me he grossed $135K last year with LS on less than 35K miles. So yeah, average gross is meaningless with a company like LS.
Break it out based on what is being pulled and that is a little better but still not giving anything near a complete picture. I have talked to plenty of van guys at LS that gross better than $200k but net less than $50k. And flatbedders that gross $180k and net better than $100K.
But we live in a world with a lot of drivers that want to know how much can I gross or how many miles can I make. Likely because they don't have a strong grasp of how they get to the bottom line so they look to just increase the top line as a way of making more money.
Sad.

That was my point exactly! 35K miles and grossed $135K. I bet he was home a lot and also his costs for the year were very low so he netted what 60-70 and worked that little amount. I would take a gig like that!
