I enjoyed reading this thread so much that I just signed up and posted my first post. My first post is here if anyone cares to read. I'm just curious if anyone has found work in the oil fields of Texas WITHOUT a CDL. I wouldn't expect anyone to send a rookie out with crude but how about water or sand? Any places need drivers bad enough that they would take them for a test? I have a family member who got his CDL this way for a company hauling rock out of the quarry.

How do I go about finding one of these jobs? I am in North Dakota working now and would like to be closer to home (not to mention this Florida boy aint use to this kind of cold). I have no OTR experience. I am an equipment operator by trade and most of my experience has been on lowboy or dump truck whenever they needed me. I enjoy driving and wouldn't mind becoming a full time driver if the moneys there. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hey Plater1 this is my first post. I was wondering how things are going at Silverline? I applied with them along with some others. I would like to ask you some questions, but I'm new and don't have 7 posts yet and can't pm anyone yet. Thanks in advance and I will be posting my experiences on here.

Typically, most companies need experience. The decision, however, rest with the insurance carrier and not the company themselves. It's not unheard of though for things like hauling water and sand. You'd just have to call around and ask. As far as crude oil, you would definately need experience. Shell Oil, for example, requires 3 years experience for any driver hauling their oil, among other requirements.
Try the online versions of the Corpus Christi and San Antonio newspapers as well as Craigslist.
Good luck.Got_to_get_out Thanks this. -
Victoria is smack in the middle of all the action in the S. TX boom. That would be a fantastic place to set up camp. Shiner, TX is a nice little town not far from there and also Moulton, TX is pretty nice. Anywhere between Corpus and San Antonio will work actually.
Victoria, however, is much larger that Shiner or Moulton and you may like easier access to all the ammenities that a larger town brings: chain resteraunts, banks, theater, mall, etc.vmaggs and Trukin..Ugh'n Thank this. -
Quick question... My Cdl is Tennessee. If I relocate to Texas and transfer my license, will I have to take my Tanker and Hazmat test over again or is it just a pay the transfer fee and be done with it? I looked at TDOT site and could not tell for sure.

The hazmat yes, the tanker no. It cost $61 plus you have to transfer your cars plates and sometimes Insurance.
