    Actually you reverse the RFG to find this
    issue.The driver in question refused the advise given early.
    Instead chose to to tear everything down chasing his tail.
    Putting the radio on a bench will not
    correct this

    So was it something stupid and external to his cb setup, like an inverter making a bunch of racket because it was close to his antenna but not putting any noise in his transmit?

    With the coax and mic unplugged from the radio,everything known was powered down,nothing running,not even the motor.

    Full scale static to 30lbs,rolling off the RFG
    decreases static on scale to zero at off position.

    Was he parked between two giant neon signs? I have no idea, I'm curious as to what it ended up being.

    With shops that are experienced with
    hot rod exports and correctly tuning them
    this never an issue when installed/installing
    in a big truck.

    Well, all I can figure out from the clues is that it's still something from the receiver of the radio if the RFG turns the noise/needle down, but I know nothing about the internals of radios. Is there supposed to be a ground from the SO-239 to the chassis that was cut or something?

    Guess the "S"perts ain't gonna touch this,so . . . .
    Grounding a "fine tuned" export improperly(very commonly advised on this forum)directly to the battery and or the stock power lugs will set these rigs to humming like mothers little helper.

    NEVER GROUND A RADIO OR AMP BACK TO THE BATTERY!

    You must "chassis ground" these units due to their sensitivity
    If you do not ground outside the chassis loop you will not correct nor have optimal performance many units are capable of.
    Double/Triple Daisy chain type grounding set ups usually compound the issue
    (Using shielded wire for grounds is like adding an RF antenna for every leg run/used)

    Average late model Class 8's have no less the 7 separate EMC type controllers on board,every aspect of build construction is modular which includes all power and mechanical limiters/monitors.All trucks have two on the speedo cluster alone.

    Which one is it? without running an isolation/elimination test(tearing the truck apart)
    on each ECM to determine which of the 4 most likely causes the issue,it just simpler to ground outside the loop.
    Regardless of what "Homers Happy Home",Ham/CB repair manual
    or favorite golden screwdriver tech shop says.

    I fixed the clowns radio in less then 3 min with 2' of 12ga and a 3/8 ring connector.
    Pulled the top bolt from the grab handle on the right A pillar,slipped the connector over the bolt and run it up snug,then twisted the other two ends of the wire and left'em hanging.FIXED!:biggrin_255:

    He cleaned up the install and later said it never sounded better,then apologized for not taking this simple route when it was first offered some 4 hrs prior.
