Fuel cost projections?

You did that backwards. Take the weekly fuel cost of $1218 and divide it by your weekly milage of 2250 = .541 cents per mile

In other words, .541 times 2250 miles = $1217.25 (call it $1218)

 

I know this thread is about 5yrs old but I still dont get it. How can it be only $0.54 pm when $1,217.25 is for one single tank of fuel, and @ 6mpg on avg. a full tank will only get 1800 miles, but he's planning on running 2250 mpw. So he will still have pay for additional fuel to cover those extra 450 miles. Which will ultimately take his fuel per milage rate higher to cover fuel costs. I think it is 75 more gallons @ $4 avg est. which would be an additional $300 added to original $1218 = $1518 Which would also take the rate up to $0.67 cpm. I think if I'm not mistaken.

Have you been drinking? 2250/6= 375 His weekly fuel consumption would be 375 gallons as he says. 375*3.25=1218.75, his weekly fuel cost. 1218.75/2250=.54 cpm Where did you get tank of fuel from???

any how I've been doing my fuel calculations wrong for quite sometime now, thank you so much for clearing that up for me.

When I put your method (correct formula) into my b/i plan, I come out allot better!!!! Wow!!! Now I can make some money!

 

To simplify it even further, divide the per gallon price by the MPG, and have cost per mile.

 

Thats the way i do it!... 3.25/6= 54

 

1. Start with a full tank of 300 gallons.
2. Record your mileage (145,200 miles)
3. Next fillup record your mileage and amount of gallons needed to fill up.
( 145,800 miles ) ( 100 gallons fuel to fillup)
4. Subtract 1st mileage from 2nd mileage
145,800 - 145,200 = 600 miles driven
5. Divide miles driven by gallons used.
600 miles divided by 100 gallons = 6 mpg
6. Divide cost of gallon ( $3.95 ) or whatever your cost is by 6 mpg.
$3.95 divided by 6 = .65833 or 65.8 cents per mile cost.
