Cat can't do what pdi does. Turning it to a 550 is a waste of money. Had mine turned to a 550 and I'll be honest, it wasn't worth it. I don't think it pulls much different than it did as a 475. Recently put the resistor in my fuel temp harness and that made a bigger difference than turning up the power.

What are you seeing for boost now?

I agree with Oscar, don't waste your money. To be honest that's why it took me so long to buy the first PDI tune is because of my past experiences with reflashes, I never felt any difference after the 550 uprate. Even with the N14 I had, took it to Cummins and was disappointed when I left. As long as your BXS is running correctly you will notice the difference of the PDI flash as soon as you start it. My MXS idles smoother, throttle is way more responsive and the usable power is amazing. Unlike a Pittsburgh box (which is supposed to be the same HP all the way up) you can hold the pedal to the floor on the biggest hill and it won't get hot. I never seen the pyro above 900* and this is pulling a multi-axle flat with a conestoga @ 120,000#. I regularly go up a hill that before the tune I would be doing 27mph tops for 2 miles flat out, after the Stage 1 flash it's between 35-40. It's basically idiot proof, before I bought it I bugged the crap out of Mr.Haney making sure if I had to I could stick a steering wheel holder in the seat and they couldn't melt it down.

If it wasn't what they say they were I wouldn't have personally bought 3 and soon to be a 4th (on a C13). -
CAT techs can not alter the timing which is the biggest problem with the ACERT motors. PDI and BD can alter the timing and fuel maps to make this motors run great like Jfaulk stated. Do not be afraid to spend money with Haney for a PDI tune or go buy a BD tuner. But do be afraid to go to a CAT dealer and let them charge you a arm and a leg for bad service. The 550 tune from CAT will probably give the motor a tad more power, but you will lose MPG (this has happened many times).
As for the fuel temp harness...do a search and you will find out the answer as to why the motor runs different. Here I even started your search ( http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...wheelers/34703-caterpillar-power-harness.html ) and there is another thread buried around here too. -
I'm still at manifold pressure around 30 psi pulling a hill they said it was the studs but will agree I pulled the turbos and two studs where broke then I left cat yesterday and they didn't put one of my clamps back on so it was free and still after new studs and everything still sitting around 30 psi like I said so idk.... I gues I could take it to pdi and let them look at it and do everything
For it though right ??? -

Is it throwing any codes? Does the check engine light work when you turn the key on? Has anyone plugged into it to see if there are any codes? Almost sounds like an iva solenoid throwing a code and derating the engine.Grinch002 Thanks this.
