Their insurance is 150.00 to 200.00 per week. You can't decline it either. They are supposed to be matching the insurance in some amount, but they aren't. Everyone knows that COBRA is supposed to be more expensive--because the company isn't paying anything in on it anymore at the point you are COBRA'd out of the company insurance. My husband was out of work for three months, and then COBRA kicked in. Guess what? The payment to COBRA was the same as the cost of his insurance. They aren't paying a dime toward the premium.
Dragon says you get paid for every minute you are on the job... The DOL just settled a claim against MC of A in September of 2011 because they weren't paying the drivers for every minute they were on the job. They also owe drivers for pension contributions they didn't match under the Union contract.
My husband drove for them for over 20 years. His biggest complaints were...
They assign you a truck to take care of and then send it out on trips with someone else, who trashes it. The cost of the insurance and the fact that you couldn't decline the purchase of it unless you had proof of insurance elsewhere. The company started making them take time off the route and sit beside the rode without being paid for that time. They weren't matching the pension. Otherwise, he did it for a long time. It was reliable work for the right person

Pay doesn't look so bad really. Open route in Dallas, TX is paying 36 mile over the road, $15.50 local delivery. But if you take out for insurance? Then again, if you ever need insurance and don't have it?
