The brokers have destroyed military freight pricing. The only military I haul these days is spot market freight, otherwise the brokers bid it down next to nothing.

Military rates have been crappy since Menlo got involved. I think they are the only ones who are making much out of the deal. I get some decent paying military runs every now and then, but for the most part they are not worth hauling, at least for me. I can usually do much better with other type of freight.volvodriver01 and SHC Thank this. -
I have a buddy who is hauling the MRAP stuff out of Oshkosh going to California and he is making a good living. But I don't want to be gone for 2 weeks and crossing thru UT NV and Donner in the winter isn't my idea of a good time.
-
I live an hour from Oshkosh, I haven't hauled anything out of there in over a year, even the spot rate stuff is too low.

I do Ut and Wy every week, it isn't that bad. I bring an OD load out to the midwest and load home.volvodriver01 Thanks this.

I have hauled in and out of Oshkosh, but it has been a while. Rates can sometimes be better when you deal with a military contractor. When you do base to base the rates are sometimes not so good at least since the change. By the time Menlo gets their cut and then the broker gets their cut there isn't enough left for a decent rate. With rates so low, Menlo has been having a difficult time moving a lot of military loads. There are better paying loads where you don't have to go through all the BS as you do with some of these military installations. If I need to go through a lot of BS then I want to be well compensated.
FREEBRD Thanks this. -
Theres a trick to getting good paying military freight ! they work off a list starting from lowest bidder working there way up the list!
longer it sits the higher the rate! -
When you deal direct with the military that is the way it is supposed to work, at least most of the time. But, not always. -
Schutte builds military trailers 8 blocks from my house, 4 blocks from where I park, in the four years they've been there I've hauled one load out of there because the spot rate made it worthwhile. Schutte Ind. has their main plant 15 miles from me, I can count on one hand the times I've been in there. Oshkosh trucks are running in the lower 2.00 range right now, once again it just isn't worth it unless I'm in a bind.
Don't forget that DOD mandated fsc, that is a joke in itself. -
We can absolutely load flats. It just depends where you want to go. As far as not being able to pm, I have no clue. I got a pm this morning from an admin stating he was "concerned" about my legitimacy as an L/S agent and fear of me being a scammer after I asked for proof of a BCO's name and tractor number before discussing rates on a lane with him. I wasn't able to respond to the message to provide any verification or even view any profiles. Can't see the Landstar group I created either. I'd be very appreciative if some of the drivers on TTR that I've moved freight with could attest to the fact our agency and I are legit.
