In canada there is no requirement to have an endorsement on your cdl to haul tanks. I was wondering what procedure you guys in the USA have to do to get this endorsement? Any specialized training courses to do?
What about HAZMAT?
Tanker training.

Written test for just the tanker endorsement. Hazmat is where jumping through hoops come in, tanker or not.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalkkw9's rock Thanks this. -
Hazmat has a pretty intensive written test for the endorsement but usually it is multiple choice questions on the computer . Then there has to be fingerprinting and a background check . Just the endorsement doesn't allow a driver to haul hazmat . The carrier must provide certified training that must be renewed every 3 years .

Thanks for the relies. Canada has HAZMAT certification but as far as i know its provided by the employer and is specific to that job only. When a driver changes employer if he needs hazmat then he takes the training again with the new company.

I am gearing up to get my hazmat. Can i get the background check going first or do i have to take and pass the test before i can get that going?

Depends on your location. Some said you have to background first and some you can do the test first. In GA you can do the test first.twentyninetimes Thanks this. -
Hope this helps.twentyninetimes Thanks this. -
I went through truck driving school in Missouri. Where I used to live. I went to take all my written/computer tests. Passed hazmat, tankers, and doubles/triples with only studying the CDL book for about 15 minutes on the way with a handful of students in the pickup truck to reach the testing facility. No formal training was required at all. I then drove on a temporary license until I received in the mail that I had passed my background check. At that time I had to take the letter to the license office to get my drivers license changed to permanent.

Oh, and I guess I should mention...that after hauling box for 3 years, I went to my first tanker company that put me in a room to watch videos for 2 days at that point I went out with another driver and filled a couple hoppers in the morning, went back to the yard for lunch and was sent bobtail down the road about an hour to rescue a driver that let his hazmat expire on his license. I then picked up his load from the customer and been hauling hazmat-tanker since.
