Called pizzle sticks. We haul them all the time into NYC. Gourmet food for some people.

Surprised someone hasn't gotten on here to tell about the load picked up in the middle of nowhere, not even a dock. Just sit in the truck, someone opens the door, gets inside the trailer, then back out of the trailer and lock the door with their own lock.

Drive for five days, under escort by seven black SUVs, all around the countryside in circles, bypassing scales and never getting onto the interstate. Finally get to the destination and one guy gets into the trailer, picks up a small object and sends the driver on his way, under escort until he reaches the interstate...where he realizes he just dropped off 50 miles from where he picked up.

His load? A computer chip containing the launch sequence for the United States' nuclear weapons arsenal.

Me? Nothing really exciting. When I was OTR, most of the time, I had to look at the BOL to even have a clue what it was. Didn't care, really. It was freight, it went into my trailer, I hauled it and I got paid. That's really what mattered to me.

Picked up a sealed pre-loaded trailer outside of New Orleans, delivered the "load" to GM plant in Detroit....

One 8 foot long, 2 inch diameter steel rod...secured to the floor of the trailer with a common (from any hardware store USA) U-clamp and 4 drywall screws. 26 pounds!

Would have been cheaper to put it in the back seat of the bosses car and drive it there! And the people wonder why the prices of goods are ever increasing!

Not really "bizarre" but another case in the automotive sector where it seems like money is wasted... When I was OTR I would have run down radiator racks for GM cars to a place in Ohio that would do some modifications to them... I would bring empty racks back but I would also go to Michigan bouncing around Detroit picking up pretty much the same product (anchors bolts) from several different manufacturing plants (10-12 different shippers).. I always figure it was kind of a waste of fuel bouncing around like that picking up basically the same product..

One other load that was getting me thinking about "how is this even worth it for the company" .. I basically was coming from Toronto,Ont to a place in Syracuse, N.Y .. Sat at the company for 5 hours before I got loaded... I was loading a machine that is used in the medical field.. Some type of over or something for when they make medicines.. Anyhow it took about 3 hours to load on double drop trailer and tarp several oddly shaped pieces (took some thinking and planning to do it right)... After I was done, I went back across the border to Burlington, Ont to a company that simply builds boxes around the items to have them shipped across seas (this load was going to China).... Why they couldn't find a company closer to build a box is beyond me.. Not to mention the fact that onces the boxes were made for the parts the machine was just going to be shipped by a different company back to the U.S to eventually loaded onto a ship...

I saw a load of dead hogs headed north on an end dump one hot day. Actually, I smelled them before I saw them. Going to the rendering plant, they were heaped to the top of a 35ft trailer. Stayed faaaaarrrr away from that mess.
Once hauled a load of scrap paper from Port Huron, MI, into Toronto, Canada. Unloaded on the east side of town, drove to the west side, picked up a load of scrap paper, going to Port Huron, MI.

Reminds me of when I hauled a load from New Jersey to Reno, NV, only to find out it was going to be shipped BACK to New Jersey to it's final destination!
