Like GasHauler said, love the job & wouldn't think about changing.16+ years and still love pulling a gas can! Its gravy work, but you do get tired of hearing 2 things when delivering :
    "Got a light" & " any free samples ?"

Yeah man, it hurt like hell ! Worse thing was i was out in the fields at a storage tank on a farm and there was no water around! I had my water jug in the truck so i washed what i could out with that, then i went straight to the nearest farm house and flushed them for a half hour under there kitchen tap and it still hurt. I was getting a bit worried by that time but after a bit more flushing it started to get better. No lasting damge but i only got a misty spray in the face not hit with a splash of liquid. could have been worse for sure. I bought the best safety goggles i could find and I wear them all the time i am dealing with the liquid from then on!

    keepitsimple Thanks this.

With us it all depends on where you're loading. When you load at the refinery you have to have all the PPE hard hats and all which I think is over kill. At our community tank farm all we need are steel toed boots and gloves. We do hold training on wearing nylon with cotton which should not be done since it creates static on it's own. Common sense is the best protective device you have when loading and unloading and a good day is when not one drop is exposed.

I did fuel in Southern California for quite awhile. But, after all the majors contracted out their fleets..Decided I didn't want to end up at a "Cox Transportation" type of deal. Now BP is selling off their California operations, Chevron outsourced last year and all the rest have gone contractors. So, I moved on to liquified gas tankers. Fuel was a great gig here, but the wages are actually declining and the racks seemed to be crowded with too many amateurs. As far as PPE, it has always been mandatory at the racks here. Can't even enter the Colton racks with out it. GATX in Wilmington was always pretty lax though..Of course, when I would load at BP across the street in Wilmington, I kept waiting for that place to catch fire anyway..Gashauler is right though, it's all about watching everything and having a routine in place.

unlike the dude who dumped gas into our one diesel cardlock tank, and diesel into the gas side...........:biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551:

gonna cost someones insurance some money as some trucks have had fuel troubles cuz of it.

It was an outside carrier, so I am thinking it will be their insurance company

Unfortunately , most of the big guys ( (Dis) Advantage, Pilot , etc, dont care about experience or anything, they will hire anyone that will "accept the job of the pay offered, experience means nothing" To them, its all a part of doing business- cross drops, accidents , etc.

BP is not going to drop ARCO for awhile but they are trying. I know they cut the hourly wage from the Seattle drivers but couldn't touch the union drivers at Vinvale or Colton. It's funny you had all that PPE and we didn't and it was the same company. I guess NV is a much better place to work than CA. Are you talking about the racks at the refinery with BP? Because I know ARCO can load three places in the L.A. Basin. I do believe you that safety may be going down because the trained ARCO people are leaving as fast as they get a decent package. BP may have their signs up but it's still ARCO for the time being.

Those are not really the big guys but more the middle guys. But I did know a driver for Pilot in Las Vegas and they were very strick on who they hired. Also if you look at their web site the job does take some experience. Maybe they got real hard up in your area???
