2 truck school im considering

MTI is oriented towards training for long haul OTR drivers. To complete their certificate you need to get hired on to one of the companies they deal with and they want you to make a 2 year commitment to that company.

Challenger is one of the companies and they require you to sign an agreement to run team for 6 months and work for quite low wages for the first year or so. Away from home for weeks at a time as well. Also required to live in Langley which isn't cheap for a place you will rarely see.

After seeing that I didn't look at the agreements for any of the other companies, just went with a different school that offered more time in the truck and one on one with the instructor instead. Saved $4000+ too.

MTI costs are about $20 000,+ your living costs in Castelgar, BC. It takes about 3 month, lot of highway driving.

TTCC cost about $3600, takes about 3-4 weeks, lot of city driving, basically left and right turns, in any traffic conditions. If you're good in shifting you might do it for less.they have a bronze, silver and gold program, only difference is a time spend behind the wheel, and price. bronze 3000...gold 4600.

At the end you have a class 1 licence and no experience. Most of companies in BC require 2 years of experience.

MTI does "Earn your wheels program", that cost $14 000, thats what they were asking me and go for training with Trimac, hinton, AB.Trimac pouse to pay a part of this program, cca 30 %. You sign a contract for 2 years driving for low wage. Mti did an interwiev and pass my info to Trimac, but I never got a call from them ever. 6 month after received an e-mail if I am still interested in training with MTI.

My buddy did MTI, so we could discuss the training.

For emigration study www.cic.gc.ca. I did it a decade ago, so rulles might change since.

 

I am currently in the middle of taking the TTCC course in Brockville, Ontario. The course is six weeks long. Four weeks behind the wheel and two weeks in class. The in-truck training is one-on-one for three hours daily for the four weeks and the in-class training may have from 3 to 5 students.

Behind the wheel training training is drop & hooks daily, city and highway driving, backing and pre/post trip inspections. The in-class portion includes the air brake training so that I can get my 'Z' endorsement as part of my 'AZ' for Ontario. The course also includes open pit certification and dump truck training.

The cost was $7235. It's on their web site.

I you plan on coming to Eastern Ontario, I would recommend them.

I did get your PM but because I don't have seven posts yet, the PM sub-system has been disabled for me. Bummer. So here is your answer.

The truck that I am using for my training is a Freightliner which is 'worn' It's not fancy but it is in good condition. No complaints there.

As for the simulator, there is one but I have not yet made use of it.
