Just bs from the poster. I have never seen one certified to operate the equipment and safely do an extrication. It is a team effort and impossible otherwise.

Every firefighter weather career, volunteer or what ever, each and every firefighter is trained to use extrication equipment or they are Not on the fire dept. Done it for 30 years and never by my self.
Roadmedic, LSAgentOZR and otherhalftw Thank this. -
What those above me have said. It doesn't happen. Either you're FOS, or he's feeding you lies. I've been in the fire service going on 12 years and no where in the country is only ONE person trained to do extrication. Advanced Life Support maybe, but not playing with the "toys of the trade."
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
When your also working on RR lines and Upside down in a Small town area they do not train everyone to DO IT ALL. This is not CHITCAGO where they have 100 People on the Crew that come in. This is a small area were they use who they can. He is a Specilized person capable of getting into the TIGHT areas. You have a clue what he was dealing with in the truck. NO you don't he does He is also the only person that has his training PAID by the County of La Salle as he has to cover the area he is in Plus Livingston and Piatt County. He has to be able to get there fast he carries all the gear needed. I would trust this man with my life I was Upside down in a second like the woman was in this accident. Trust me HE EARNS HIS MONEY IN A SECOND.
Idoits like YOU that are not in this area have no clue WTF he does in his Spare time to get the training he does can shove it. Your not the one he comes to after one of these rescues to blow off steam I AM AHOLES. Your not the one putting his butt together after one of these. Your not the one that has to hold his head in your shoulder for hours as he cries his head off going WTF can't some of these IDIOTS slow down. I get to hear that crap and MORE from him. Your not the one that had to be his shoulder again. I deal with him every time he needs me to be there for him.
You do not. I do so if he gives me info I take it as GOLDEN. -
I know the area you live in. I still call BS.
My county is much smaller and it is not Chicago.
We are only a small area with total volunteers at all of the fire departments.
Many of our calls do not have more than 5 people at them.
So, you will need to know that we DO KNOW.
I am a licensed AVANCED LIFE SUPPORT Paramedic as well. I go to all of the calls including fires. I have been the only paramedic available to cover an entire county at no pay.
Calling people IDIOTS and AHOLES is a violation of the forum rules.Last edited: Dec 10, 2011

sounds like he should look for a different career--you gotta leave that crap back where it happened or its going to kill you
-
If his words are so GOLDEN...then go along with him to find out just actually how he can be the "ONLY ONE CERTIFIED" and have the knowledge and skills for the job.
Where I grew up...Ely, NV...we had a 100% volunteer department, we all learned all the tools of the trade when in Explorers with the department. that is beginning at 15 years of age. Including extrication, underground rescue, confined quarters search and rescue, along with the standard medical and fire suppression for both wild land and structure work. It is a mining town/county...so we all were also trained in deep shaft rescue.
My final Dept. was in north Central CA...east of Folsom in the foothills. We were comprised of 15 paid personnel and backed by 75 volunteers. both paid and volunteer are required to be proficient in all aspects of fire service work. The specialized training and State certification is/was required in specific, extra hazardous work...such as, deep shaft rescue, underground and swift water rescue, high risk vertical rescue, rappelling and helicopter insertion. The medical side of the department required Paramedic (EMT-P), although all personnel were required to be at least EMT-1 or better...and every one of the volunteers took their tasks as personal as did the paid staff having this as their chosen career. We all carried our gear with us at all times, and we all had tone pagers for all calls to the department. This is standard practice at all departments.
As to my personal background...add in being a licensed and certified Funeral Director...so death, dismemberment, and all the "uglies" of this living world I have seen and dealt with at some point in my experiences. Fire Dept. personnel have the luxury of dealing with the victims on the scene. Try dealing with extremely upset family members after the fact they lost a loved one to another jamoke's stupidity. Or try being directly involved in the loss of a persons life... -
I have been driving the route from Morris, Il to Mpls, MN for the last month. I was only 4 hours ahead of this driver. Really will be a sad site to pass on Monday.
25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
This was a sad post for all of us. Please stop the posturing and take a moment to hold who you love. The name on the side of the truck is inconsequential at this point.
cloc4047 and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
