Info on Bruce Oakley vac tank?

I am also interested to know if someone has any recent experience with them.

 

Yea, Im running a vac tank here at Oakley. A new Mac with a cooler for the plastic. Presently at the house here in Texas with a load delivering on Monday in Grand Prairie.
Been with Oakley for 3 years, running a vac for 1.
I'll give you a quick look at the company (my opinion)
Family owned, no debt, the office is one big room (like a big tent)
100 percent o/o, paid same loaded and empty (except sand tanker)
Yearly bonus based on loaded miles ($5,662 this year for me)
Must be clean shaven, dress appropriate, and old school values

The fuel pay is the fuel surcharge we receive(load + fuel = gross)

Raises every year; equals about $2500 (mileage rate @120k yr, my figures)

End dump/dirt tank/vac tank no qualcomm (trip pak)
Sand tank = qualcomm and oil field logs

If you load vac tank Pays $75 (no unload pay)

At Oakley it is like being a company driver, but good steady work and pay.

How much are these guys up in PA getting to haul sand for the "shale". I see them everywhere, are they trying to get all the guys up here they can or is it a volunteer type thing. Personally I wouldn't want to volunteer to drive up here if I didn't have too, but I guess if the money is right, the weather and the conditions might not be much of a hurdle to overcome.

 

Yes, hauling frac sand in Pa is no picnic, but they get (contract rate) of $900 a day guaranteed. But when contract runs out, then hope for another. They used to get detention, but that was such a pain in the ### in keeping track....
Another issue to hauling frac sand at Oakley; there is a waiting list (for obvious reasons) so if you come over and want to do sand, get on the list as soon as you can (obviously).
There are no shortcuts to good money, but to get it you have to be in position to do so, whatever the path (frac sand, oversize, plastic etc).

 

Mostly Southeast; as I dont always run plastic catalyst is the common product, so refineries around the gulf. Never West, sometimes North but up and back down again. The deal I want (and why I stayed with a vac tank) is the dedicated plastic customer who needs the stuff everyday and is why Oakley bought the new vac tanks. Running plastic pays more per mile, and $75 to load can get a good paycheck very close to a sand tank without all the problems of hauling sand.
For example: I just did a run for a new customer in Missouri who needs 6/7 loads a week, 264 paid miles from NLR. Using $1.55 as a base rate (milage plus fsc) one day is $818.40 plus $75 to load $893 a day.
If you lived in NLR you could be home every weekend, but I live in Texas so this run will be offered first to those with seniority who live in NLR (as it should be). Similar runs are starting to occur out of Houston area (because we have the new trailers with the coolers) so hopefully I have positioned myself to take advantage of the new business.

Oakley does not have a terminal in Houston, just North Little Rock Ar and some small lots scattered around.

 

Thank you for all your input on oakley, its been hard to get any GOOD information about them. My only hangup with them so far has been their age limit on trucks. but its something to look into further. Now that I have seen some real info.
