Wow, that was a great post, Gashauler. Felt like I was reading something from a real oldtimer with alot of heart and character. I will be looking for your replies from now on..

    Congrats, daytona!! :biggrin_2559:

I will be starting class soon myself...
Your thread will help me to remember to keep going and pay attention no matter what. Even if its hard.. even if my leg hurts like hell from pushing the clutch in...I am more concerned about safety then pay as well.
    Way to go!

Very good post to read. Very enlightening, and I really liked Gashaulers too. I like to hear about older drivers going the safe route. I have been in school for 5 weeks now with many more to go and look forward to it every day. It seems to go by so slow (the time) that is. I just want to get the license and get out on the road.

Wow I had no idea so many people where following this.I will try to keep you updated along the way. I got my cdl hard copy license today from the revenue office. Then I had to go to a separate place to get fingerprinted fork over another 90 bucks and get my background check for my hazmat (not required by maverick but I wanted it for me)

While I was there maverick called me and asked if I could report on Sunday.Since I am a big fan of making money and I want to start of on the right foot I said of course. So I will keep you all posted as this goes.I have to take another physical and pee in another cup but that is no big deal.

I know my girl will be disappointed we aren't going away this weekend so maybe I can run her down to the casino that always makes her happy hope you all have a great holiday weekend later:iroc:

Good luck daytona! Keep us posted with your experience with Maverick. I'm planning applying next spring with them. I've heard different stories on their agility test. I've heard it's very tuff, like lifting 120 lbs over your head, pulling yourself up on a 6' tall box and other things, and with a heart monitor hooked up to ya the whole time. And I've heard that it was nothing to it. No heart monitor, lift 60 lbs, bend this way and that way and thats it. I don't know who to believe. I'm 49, not in bad shape, but I'm not as strong as i use to be. I'm not to crazy about the idea of trying to lift 120 lbs over my head. Please let us know how the test really is. BOL.

Congrads Daytona!!!!! We fly out to NM Tuesday morning to start school ourselves. 5 weeks later we'll be where you are today. Its been great reading about your experiences and I know this will be a well read thread on this board by those looking to enter trucking. I hope you do well at Maverick!

OK here goes I show up at 7 to start orientation there is about 30 to 35 guys there. I here one guy say that maverick turnover is around 70 percent I thought wow thats high till I was told that most company average 130 percent turnover. We will be in class here for the next two weeks. Saturdays are your day off.

1st thing they due is scan your license and your ssn card. Then they split you in two groups those with over the road experience and those without. There are about 15 in my group. They spend the first two hours discussing expectations your and theirs. It really gives you a glimpse at your classmates and in some cases makes you wonder. We spend the next few hours going over map reading and logbooks mostly it was stuff they taught me at ASU.

They give us free pizza for lunch then the afternoon is more logging classes. Then we get on computers to start the typical company paperwork.Three videos later it is 6.30 pm.Because of the holiday we wont take the physical ability test until Tuesday.

A few things to tell you classrooms are freezing cold so tomorrow I will bring a sweatshirt.I was surprised by people who don't even bring the basic things to class like pen and paper yet alone the atlas and calculator we where told to bring. They gave me 50 bucks at the end of the day I guess so you have spending cash. They have rooms that they put people up at the terminal I didn't see them since I live in the area but I will tell you that everything I have seen of the terminal looks 1st rate but what do I know I am a newbie will post more later.:iroc:
