companies like sanjel, calfrac, trican all have driver training. they give you monthly salary to attend the courses and after you get to the base of your choice they give you job bonus's for field work.

ok--i wasnt thinking about the oilfield companies--but that is a good idea--especially the younger you are--and they would be better to work for than the majority of otr companies out there

yup, can you imagine working for a highway company and trying to pay that amount back and live a normal life. we get paid very well and you get valuable experience at the same time.

yes--lots of money to be made in the patch--as long as its busy-and now it looks like its going to hang in there for quite awhile--rather than the boom and bust as it used to be--i actually see a few trucks--1/2 tons--from alta and sk working in the oil down here--but to me--it sure isnt like the oil in western canada--its a little more small scale here--and i dont think the wages here are even close

i agree, thats why there is a monthly salary. when it's breakup time the monthly salary will pay you to sit around the shop and play cards... (wash equipment)

Honestly I think trican is blowing smoke nobody I meet driving for them started that way. Most companies want you to start as a swamper or spotter for awhile before letting you near those programs.
I do know many people who started as cl 3 drivers they paid to do class one after 6 months or so

I never heard back from the 2 companies I contacted regarding that program. I'll have my license in a week or two, would still be at home waiting for a call if I didn't pay for my training.

you dont need to be on ei in ontario to get school paid for, look into second career training, thats how I got my license paid for completely. The criteria nessecary to be eligable is being laid off due to shortage of work and have gone to secondary school for anything in the past. I took landscaping from humber college, was a landscape construction foreman for 3 years got laid off, only had to wait for 3 months after getting laid off before i was eligible, and second career training pays up to 27k so find the best course you can.

And most places that wil help you get ur license are ###### places to drive for but thats up to you.

Classroom for what? I stand by what I said, I meet their drivers every day out here and not one got hired to drive without a cdl. Some started with a class three and upgraded others worked for awhile then did company sponsored cdl training.
