I watched the congressional hearings regarding Keystone and energy with Secretary Chu, they raked that guy over the coals over his agencies new policies on fracking. One legislator made a point of telling him fracking has been going on for more than five decades and that as of yet their has not been a single documented case of a death or injury as a result, after hundreds of thousands of wells. He also asked him on what study he is basing his decisions on as that the only studies available have shown no evidence or data of fracking polluting the water tables. Chu said there was a case where people from a town said they could smell natural gas in their water supply to which the legislator asked the secretary of energy why he doesn't know that natural gas is odorless until they add mercaptin to it to give it an odor. This hearing was last week, and he made no mention of this study only that they were in the process of a study, I guess this is the new (something like the fifth study because none of the others supplied the evidence to back up his policies) study. It will not result in the shutdown of fracking, the republican house will quash that instantly. They made a point of showing that all of the increase in oil production for the past three years is the result of the Bush administration. Chu kept trying to share credit with Bush but they weren't having any of that. Chu will be gone soon anyhow, he's going to lose his job over Solyndra which he had a lot of personal dealings with. Relax folks, this is going nowhere.

Obama would shut this down...at his own risk.

No way he's going to lose the working man vote this late in the game. The flat earthers are far outnumbered in the polls on this one.

Even dumb ### Barney Franks come out in favor of the Keystone pipeline this week.

The left is reading the tea leaves....and wishing for better days.

I think Big John is right about this. Its a different climate now in this country. We have been forced to live on low paying jobs or no jobs at all for too long. I can't even make a decent living driving otr, all 3 of my last jobs the pay is crap. The cpm is bad and its common place to use my time, hours and hours of it to work and not get paid.

The oil companies are the first breath of fresh air that's came along in a LONG time. You can make a GREAT living without going to school for 25 years and racking up a bunch of loans. And much of the time college grads with all the money they own can't even find a job. If this gets taken away I don't think people will be happy.

Coal mining isn't being shut down . Exports are steadily increasing . Look at the increase to Asia . http://www.eia.gov/cneaf/coal/quarterly/html/t7p01p1.html
Evidently there are no Asian tree huggers .

I agree that Obama isn't stupid enough to allow a complete shutdown of fracking operations. He's postponing all critical decisions until after the election. Also, if you read that article carefully, the EPA is being very careful not to imply that ALL fracking is a problem. They specifically mention Pavillion in Wyoming, noting the unique geology of the area. I believe the EPA will not make any significant moves until their fracking study is completed in 2014. By then, hopefully there will be enough unbiased research to decide if there are any issues. So in the meantime, I plan to get me a job in the oil patch and earn as much #### money as I can. :biggrin_255:

Looks like China is getting most of it. I'm pretty sure they have environmentalists, but Mr. Jintao and his thugs don't take kindly to the little people expressing their opinions. I'm just thankful I was born in the US.

The one positive thing about China using coal is they prefer American mining equipment . Caterpillar can't make equipment fast enough for them .
